With DIY (or at last a sort of a how-to) el-heated visor, soles and gloves!

That's just showing off. The wife would be happy to see the back of me if she knew I was going somewhere cold, it's the boss and my bank manager who get upset

Great site Hans.

I've been playing with my heated gear and decided the biggest issue (it's all home made BTW) is the plugs. Previously I've used the smaller sort of automotive plug (BMW charger type), but even when soldered the screw type terminals distress the cable with the result it fails. I'm a great fan of IP68 type connectors, so this season we'll see if they are up to the job. I'm worried about the load rating though. I've run spot lights very sucessfully through these, but heat always adds an extra load. Ask me if it works in about March

On a sadder note,
I have heard that Bernhard Schulze has died this August, he was the guy who did the announcing at the Elefantentreffen.

I had the pleasure of an evening in a pub with him enroute to the 2006 rally.

I got this information from one of the winter rally sites, so i don't have any more details.

Sounds like some of you have more extreme winter riding experience than me.

A simple thing I found very effective before I found a pair of gloves that actually live up to the claim of being waterproof - plastic gloves from the petrol station forecourt underneath sodden leather gloves make a big difference. If you can add a pair of thin silk glove liners, wet or dry, under the plastic gloves even better.

Thanks Rossi.

These are valuable tips for those areas where winter is wet and rainy. I do suspect though that it will still be to little to handle really sub-zero temperatures, where you need some more serious stuff like heated gloves.

heated gloves are fine, unless they stop working. then you are in trouble. Treat heated clothing as a luxury item, and have a back up plan.

If your reg/rec burns out, you will be needing all your battery power for ignition/lighting.

there are plenty of people that have cobbled heating ducts from the engine to the bar muffs. I am going down that route at the moment, seems a waste to have all those therms going to fresh air.

Does anyone have experience and advice for trying this??

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
