999 emergency TEXT tip in UK only
 

I read this interesting article in 'The Update' magazine from George Fisher Ltd which could save someone's life one day.
Applies only in UK

Sometimes in a poor reception area a text message can get through where a voice call can't, however the catch was that you could not text 999.
Well now you can; you just have to register first.

How to?
1) Text 'register' to 999
2)After a minute you will get a text back, to which you reply 'yes'
3) The system will then text you to confirm registration
4) That's it
I have done the above and registered my phone.

My dad is deaf so I'll do his too, as before he would not have been able to contact the emergency services. A great idea.
