yamaha xt600e equipping
 

I have just bought an xt600e from 'donuk' and am now looking for suggestions for what extra parts people think I should fit..
The trip is UK to australia if it helps? Planning to get alot ofoff roading in too.

also looking for parts for sale too.

The bike already has hepco luggage racks, acerbis 23l tank, and bash plate.

So I am looking for soft luggage, a locking fuel cap, and some hand/lever guards for sure, anyone?

You're right with soft luggage... LOADS about. Ortlieb are waterproof but expensive.

I use ex military canvas bags. Very cheap and very strong. You will need waterproof bags inside though.

Locking fuel cap ??? Forget it ! No one steels fuel. I've never once heard of it happening !

Handguards.... Bark busters or Acerbis rally pro.

You don't still have the xt do you ted? Have any of those mods for sale?

Picked up a set of 58 bags from my local cadet squadron (im an ex cadet of), and a small ammo tin for free.

I plan to fit the ammo tin in front of the sump guard, but high up so it doesnt get knocked to hold my tools.

This a good idea?

hmmmm I think a tin might be quite rattley and suffer from metal fatigue and crack.... MAYBE !! They're only very thin aren't they.

A better idea is a length of THICK drainpipe type plastic. You can get the end caps to fit also. Check out Screwfix, toolstation or even B&Q etc.

These can be attached using large jubilee clips however these are also prone to snapping if going offroad.

The best solution would be to have an aluminium tool box welded to your bash plate with a lid on it.

Personally, I keep my tools in my kit bag as I'm usually always using them on other peoples bikes and they need to be portable :rolleyes2:

Looking at barkbusters on ebay, but seems like there are different types. I thought they were universal?? Cant now find which ones I need!

They are all the same...

It's the fitting kit that differs... You probably just need the standard one for standard bars.

I recommend calling adventurespec. They will guide you.

Barkbusters aren't cheap though.

You could also give Gabe a call at Zen Overland. He might stock them too.

Ah brilliant thanks, have contacted adventure spec and they have helped me well.

Another thing which i know is slightly off topic, but how did you find the single on long stretches? Motorway riding etc?

You MUST do something about the seat. A sheepskin isn't enough. You could get it reshaped and filled with gel pads for 100-150 quid. I really recommend this. My ass ached.

A screen really helps too. Search "Spitfire" for the brand.

Also drop the rear sprocket 1 or 2 teeth. I think I tried a 41 and it was WAY too long. No acceleration. I think the standard is 45 rear. Try a 43 !! (please check this first though)

On standard gearing, mine could do 65mph okay. It would do 70 but the mpg suffered.

Just looking at the 'spitfire' screen and the cheapest i can get it with postage is about 90 quid? Fair price?

yeah.. They're not cheap are they.

I paid £40 for mine on ebay back in 2007.

I used Bike-It Acerbis Rally Pro copies on mine - they never moved a mm when I dropped the bike (more than once :oops2:) in Morocco and would recommend them.
