Wanted, Roof tent Advice.
 

Hi everyone.
Would love to get some advice on buying a rooftent? Howling moon, Eazi awn etc. The size i need is 1.2 m as my roofrack is only just big enough. Any tips on what to look for would be great.

One thing I noticed with _all_ the tents I saw: the matras is too thin. Or maybe I am too heavy ;-)

Nick, depends on your use - are you spending all your time in Europe/West Africa or are you heading RTW or heading to SA ?
If you are in a SWB a folder might be better- then it leaves you some roof space - in a LWB then a Maggiolina is worth considering. Or if you fancy doing it properly - and something im looking at for a 110 project.... check out

Get out of the drivers seat, walk into the rear of the vehicle, pop a few catches roof pops up hey presto - dont even have to get wet - yes please !

My opinion on a few different makes, ive kipped in all these makes and spent a full 6 months in a 1.2 Hannibal - I use the Hannibal every week for at least 3 nights all through the winter - including snow and -10 !

For European use the Brownchurch has IMHO the best rain protection for a folding tent and its very sturdy - with galvanised fittings it is built to last.

The Maggiolina is a very good alternative to a folder if you are not too tall - better in the rain than all the others and quick to put up and down, but not as cool as the other folders - the Extreme model is best - make sure it is lined or you will get condensation in Europe.

If you are in Hot climates alot the Hannibal/Ezi Awn/Howling moon are great - though the Hannibal IMO is better made than the others with a better fly and matress - I have one on the 90.

we've been through the same thing, we plumped for an Eazi Awn 1.4 tourer, this is the one with the covered entrance and covered rear. it's pretty good but canvas is heavy and drums i the wind when wet, it's also not as quick to put up as some would think... recently I've seen the 'Myway' tents. there a South African make and use rip stop materials like modern tents.

the Eazi Awn was the best of the canvas tents and depending on where you use it, the tourer is useful in wet weather.
