WANTED:heated jacket or vest -riding from British Columbia to Ontario.
 

I'm in need of a heated vest or jacket for a ride from British Columbia to Ontario in the next few weeks. I am usually XL but may fit a Large as well.

Thanks for the suggestion lazyjack but it all adds up. Revzilla wants Somewhere around $300 minimum order to ship to Canada. That plus shipping and tax will be over $400. I need to find ways to save. My budget is limited.

Can't help you with a heated vest, but you may want to post a request also on some of the general sites like craigslist or kijijji to see if anything turns up locally. For bike specific site, adv seems to have a pretty active selling forum so you might have greater luck. A final option for the really budget crowd is to make your own heated vest. There are some general descriptions to be found on-line, not hard, works ok, but you have to get some enjoyment of doing it otherwise definitely not worth your while.

Oh and re: shipping into Canada, if nothing else comes up, you can always get the vest shipped to one of the locations just across the border and pick it up on your way through. If you are sticking to highway #1, then Abbottsford/Sumas is on your way past. If you are coming across #3, there are Canadian towns with crossings and locations a short distance from the border to choose from eg. Osoyoos, Rossland, Salmo, Creston, etc.

Man.. have you considered just stopping at MEC and purchase good thermal underwear and vest / pants, and a thermos to hold hot beverage? A heated vest will of course cost much more, take time to find and deliver, assuming it fits, it will require an electrical connection to the bike. Doing the trip in the coming weeks should be fine, but don't wait beyond end October. Take your time, warm up when you fill-up, stop for rain, take your time and enjoy! Just buy good gloves though... :mchappy:

May be easier getting good thermals, or a snowsuit at least then you'll be warm off bike too.

I ended up getting one about half way across the country and I'm glad I did. I ran into quite a bit of rain and cold weather near the end.

The last day I rode about 12 hours in total and the first five hours were torrential rain. The rest of the day was light to heavy rain so I was very very wet. But that heated vest made it nice. It was really good to have that heat generated inside my jacket. My pants leaked after a few hours so my butt and legs were drenched but my Jacket held out. I rode non stop except for fuel. I was going to stop once for a coffee but the idea of having a coffee in what amounted to a wet diaper wasn't appealing so I rode on. I was fine with the non-stop riding, I like that, but would rather have had a dry butt.

I bought a Venture heated vest that comes with a controller. Wired It up to the battery behind a shopping centre not far from the bike shop I bought it at and away I went. Money well spent. I don't regret it at all.

Good ride. Lots of fun. Of course, every ride is a good one eve if I get wet.
