Question Wanted: bike (around Sydney)

Hi everyone!

I'm totally new to this forum but it seems quite handy!

I registered because I'm going to tour in Australia (NSW,VIC) in January/February (total of 1 month). I'll arrive on January the 4th and from then I'll be looking for a bike for sale. No dirtbike.. I own a 560 XVS Yamaha Dragstar myself but I don't necesarily need another chopper. It'll have to be a trustworthy one for daily touring 'round 200-300 km.

If anyone knows anything, even particular sales-website for this kind of stuff would be of great help for me. Or any other tips concerning routes and places to camp etc in NSW/VIC. I'm planning tp do the Great Ocean Road, up to the Grampians, then take the Great Alpine Road from Wangaratta to Bairnsdale then back to Sydney.

Cheers & thanks in advance!

Fleur

PS: I do intend to sell the bike again, but still I my budget isn't too high. I guess 1500? Is this at all possible?

welcome.

to the HUBB Fleur!
you don't have to be mad to come here, but it sure does help!

Cant help you on the Bike in Oz im afraid, even though my Cousin lives in Perth, its not a country I have ever been to but have wanted to , oh have I ever.... problem is, where I want to go, you're not (legally) allowed to go. Arnhem land, it is beautiful up there in the Northern Territories, I used to watch Bush Tucker man and turn green with envy!

I have been to Utrecht though! bought a Mercedes 115 series 220 Diesel Saloon from the open air car market ( used to be a Tuesday?) that was, ooooh, 20 years ago now, is that still going, that Car market?
I loved that car, I was only 22 and had a Mercedes! all my mates had Vivas and Marinas then I discovered it ran on central heating oil and my dad wondered why 600 litres of oil didnt last him all winter......

Hope you have a great time in Oz, and a great time on the HUBB

Martyn

thanks for your reply Martynbiker!
I'm nt sure if the market's still there... I'm not so much into cars myself

Anyways, I hope Dave's reading this because I cannot answer the PM, I need 8 more posts and I don't want to spam this forum with nonsense (don't know what and where to post) so hopefully you can send me an e-mail? fleurjongepier@gmail.com
Thanks for the PM& tip Although bikepoint.com.au is so huge I can't find anything in the $2500-3000 range (all are upto 2000 or go no lower than 4000...)

try Trading Post - Buy and sell cars, sell boats, sell dogs and much more online Australia wide - they have bikes around the country.

Instead of using PM try using the email - that will reveal your email address to who ever you send it too .. but you want to comunicate anyway.

Good riding in the Vic high plains and NSW alpine areas .. HU meeting feb 24th? Tintaldra .. if you have the time.

Umm for a road atlas the Hemma Motorcycle Atlas is good. That has some recomemded rides ..

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
