Calling an Aussie!

Venting my frustration...but I calculated the exchange rate from AUS$ to UK£ to bring a set of these panniers (new) in at £120. I sent an email to Andy Strapz in Australia to ask how much postage to the UK would be. I was referred to the UK dealer (I didn't realise there was one) but they are selling them for £160 + £20 P+P....£180 instead!

Anyone reliable in Australia fancy doing a bit of dodgy dealing and halving the difference?! Maybe I should stop being a tight git and just spend the money

just spend the money

with all due respect I think you just being tight..

email / call David Gates (the UK dealer)
info@andystrapz.co.uk
and ask him if "he to do a deal"... he can only say no!!

I got the exp. panniers and smart strapz from him couple of years ago and he was very helpful in trying to find out if the panniers would fit a triumph speed triple!!

and if something goes wrong with them you can just get him on the phone and complain.. he usually listens.

ps. I reckon these panniers are best value for money soft panniers but I suppose you already know that

Pannierz.

Hi Chris, George,

Unfortunately, importing goods into this country is expensive - not just for the shipping, but for the customs and excise duty that has to be paid as well. I also have to make a profit, otherwise I may as well give the stuff away and I already do a lot of that.

As it happens Chris, I'd already sent you an email after receiving your letter asking for sponsorship - I'm posting it here in case your email filter deleted it as spam:

Hi Chris,

Received your letter regarding your trip to Africa. Could well be interested in some sponsorship but would be by way of supplying you with some of our products in return for stickers placed in prominent positions etc. as we don't have a budget to assist anyone making trips I'm afraid.

If this would be of interest to you, I can demo some of our goods to you. Some we would be willing to supply for free. Others would/could be at a discount.

Let me know.

And good luck.

Thanks,

David Gates.

As George says, we're always willing to help but at the end of the day we're a business like any other and we have a margin. Everyone planning a trip wants something for free with the promise of very little in return. I sent the Race To Dakar team a load of our stuff which they ended up giving away to their friends instead of using!!

I have an ex-demo set of Pannierz which I could let go cheaper for you - they're pristine, with no use bar being taken out of the bag, shown to a customer and put back into the bag. If you'd like those, I could waive the P&P for you. How does that sound?

David Gates.

P.S. If anyone has any problems with any of our kit, then please contact me first. I don't monitor these boards, but am always willing to help and resolve any issues you may have with our gear which is fantastic!

Thanks for the replies. Apologies if I was/am being tight. David, the ex-demo set sounds good thanks...I'll send you an email in the next few days to confirm if that's okay?

Also apologies if you have emailed me and I haven't replied. I'm having some issues with one of the the web-based host at the moment and I'm trying for it to get it sorted out.

Cheers

Chris

We already bought one pair off David end last year and will be coming around to pick up another set some time soon ;-)

Excellent bags, hard wearing, "bottomless", well worth the cash. Easier to pack than Oxford or Buffalo.

Dave...my topbox is clean and shiney and needs a sticker or two ;-)

Andy is a real person who rides .. and he will listen to stuff too ..

----- I like his tank bag - good and small .. rather than huge! He is thinking of doing tank panniers for it too.

The neck warmer that doubles as a hat is good too.

Some people I know like his panniers .. some others would like some 'improvements' .. depernds on how extreme your travels are I think.

Who and what is the address and phone No of the UK importer for Andy's panniers.
