I am not sure what you are querying, the massive price slashing or the principle.

The 2.5% reduction will hardly hot up the bidding, but it brings it to the top of the thread list again. Cheap advertising!

In UK, registration numbers are assigned to a vehicle and usually pass on with the vehicle to subsequent owners.
However it is possible to transfer/assign numbers either to another vehicle or to an interim 'Retention Certificate' to be assigned to a different vehicle later.
So effectively what is on offer here is the entitlement to use that registration number presumably on a Certificate sooner than on an actual vehicle. There are additional Transfer, Retention and Assignment fees.

Realising another opportunity to try to become a commercial organisation and make profits to offset its failings to operate efficiently within the Government imposed budgets, the DVLA now 'sells' previously unused numbers (they are also thinking of 'reselling' previously used numbers that appear abandoned!).

So later this year one lucky buyer could obtain the number WA61GAL to put on his vehicle ;)

Only big business when or if 'For Sale' converts to 'Sold'.

Previous registrations search. Searches previous style registrations
41% profit in 18 months. Big Business if sold for the latest asking price. Good luck.

I know all about these things, having spent several tens of thousands of £s on my ego.
I have 2 motos parked up in UK each with my full 3 initials + low single digit number.
I had my full 6 letter surname (spelling T with a 7) and gave it to a Son.

And the only UK reg car I have ever seen in Moscow in 7 years has a 2 digit + 2 letter UK registration number. Sadly it attracts much ДПС curiosity and stops for documents checks - more than our RUS registered car ever does!
And the point of the fun is generally lost here as the letters 'TP' read as 'TR' to Cyrillic readers whereas they would expect 'ТП' from the translit of my name!

£1200 was the base price. Add VAT and all the fees, it cost me £1635.20p so no real profit. Just want to move it on as I bought a 690 in the end and made some modes to it.
