Yamaha XTZ Tenere '97 FOR SALE France / UK

My beloved Yamaha XTZ660 Tenere is still for sale:

I have been travelling and working around the Med for the last few months, so I haven't spent much time on this site or done anything else to promote this bike, but it is still in great condition and ready to go. Some of the extra kit that was originally listed here has been stolen, that is why I have updated the ad:

It is a 1997, twin headlamp model and has done just under 50,000 miles. It is a good, solid, capable bike that can take you anywhere. I have had the bike for one year and apart from some initial carb issues (which I have solved by fitting new carbs) it has never let me down.

The colour is dark green and it’s in great condition both mechanically & cosmetically. This bike has been well looked after by me and previous owners. I change the oil and filter at least every 4000 miles and keep the engine below 5000rpm. At those revs it will cruise comfortably at 70 mph and, because only one carb is open, it gives you about 180 to 200 miles before you hit reserve (you may get more on a higher gearing). It doesn’t smoke or use any oil and everything was stripped down and serviced about six months ago.

It has just past an MOT with no problems but I was told that it will probably need new brake discs for the next one.

The water temperature gauge doesn’t work properly, so I have fitted an oil temp gauge to the filler cap instead. Depending on the weather and how hard I work it, it cruises at about 70 - 80 degrees.

The starter clutch is a bit rattley and therefore takes a couple of turns to start it when it’s cold – but it has never failed me, even in below freezing temperatures!

It is UK registered (with log book), taxed, MOT’d, all documents inc. full service & parts manual (paper & CDROM), Datatag security and 2 sets of keys.

It has many new bits and extras which are as follows:

Reconditioned carbs
22L fuel tank
Brand new battery (1 month ago)
Inline fuel filter
Oil temperature gauge
New braided brake hoses
Recent (5000 miles ago) DID Gold plated X-ring chain & hardened steel sprockets
New renthal bars
New Continental TKC80’s about 3000 miles ago
Heavy duty inner tubes
Reinforced alloy hand guards
Heated grips
Smoked windscreen
Bash plate
Engine protection bars
Laser Pro Duo exhaust

Rain cover
Garmin eTrex GPS holder (I may include the GPS unit too)
Leather tank protector (specifically for this bike with matching colour scheme)
Oxford Boss lock
Home made rear bag rack & exhaust protector

Other spares are available at an address in Southern France, and if you are willing to collect them they will be included in the price:

Scottoiler
Old sprockets (good condition – higher gearing)
Old chain (not great, but would get you out of sticky situation)
Original brake hoses which have no splits (good for emergency spares)
Spare handle bars (old with slight bend)

If required, I could also include the following for a negotiated price:

Neo waterproof / breathable, armoured jacket with removable lining (size L)
Weise winter gloves (size L)
Highlander army boots (size 11UK, 45 EU) almost new
Waterproof over trousers
Brand new “Overboard” waterproof roll top backpack
Quechua 2 Second two man tent
2 x camping mats

The bike is currently near Toulouse Southern France and you are welcome to come and view it and take it for a spin. If a sale is agreed then I am happy to help with getting it back to the UK – I can even deliver it to anywhere in Southern England.

This is a great bike for adventures and is ready to go. I am looking for reasonable offers in the region of 1500 GBP / Euros.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me:

Thumbs down

I know that this thread doesn't have the bike location in the title, but I have tried to change that through "edit" but it still hasn't come up - apologies.

Unfortunately I had a bunch of my bike gear nicked from a mates car a few days ago, so I will have to revise the kit list:

Panniers, tools, small spares and some camping gear (don't know exactly what yet because I haven't had time to check) and the manual (would you believe it) have all been stolen - bastards!

Everything else still stands although I know the price will need reducing so make me an offer.

To those of you who have emailed me: thanks for you interest so far.

Exclamation Update

Thanks for interest so far. I have updated the main ad, because my panniers and tank bag were stolen a few weeks ago, and also I have been away from a computer for ages.

This bike is still for sale.

Thanks

re Tenere '97 location - is it in the UK?

Hi there,

Is the bike in the UK? I'd be interested in viewing/test-riding it.

Thanks,

Bob

Sorry for the belated reply - I have had limited internet access recently.

The bike is still in SoF at the moment. Unfortunately, I can't get away to bring it back to the UK for a few months. I'm sorry if that's no help.

If you're likely to be down this way, let me know and I can put you up for a day or two and you can have a play with the bike.

Thanks
