Yamaha XT600 Tenere - Dar Es Salaam - For Sale

This makes me want to cry.

Rode my lovely bike from UK to India and shipped it to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania with the plan to ride it home through Africa. However I became very ill and was forced into hospital in England where i am now recovering.

I do not want to let this bike go but the carnet runs out in august and I am not well enough to collect it.

It has been cleared through customs and is sat in the warehouse of Korufreight in Dar Es Salaam.

I basically need to recoup some money from this disaster. So am willing to let it go cheap.

I bought it for £1500 before I left UK and would accept as little as £800 if my carnet could be retrieved and returned to me intact.

The bike is the twin headlamp 1990 3aj version in blue. It has a mainstand and soft pannier racks and is the perfect bike to travel africa on. It has been 100% reliable and has never failed to start.

Please get in touch if you are interested or would like some photos.

Hi Wiskey

Sorry about the trip turning upsidedown. I'm living and working (teacher at the international school) here in Dar and am interested in learning more about the bike you are selling (is it still for sale?). Just sent you an email too.
cheers
Pete

Hi Ivan

There's a motorbike club actually and I hear they get together on weekends and rally into some pretty fun spots. I saw a few of them a couple weeks ago with all the armor heading the opposite direction. My bike is my only mode of transport and I'm not the worlds best mechanic so I'm hesitant.
Where are you living in the west? What takes you out there?

Pete

Dar bike club

Hey Ivan,

When I was in Dar about 3 years ago I ran into an expat biker who worked at the Royal Palm. I only remember his first name, Steve, but you could ask around at the bar there and I'm sure they will be able to help.

If you do find him, tell him Brian with the Tenere says thanks for helping out!

Good luck,

Brian

Out the west!

Hey Pete & Brian,

I am working for a mining company out near Tarime near the Kenyan border so don't get much of a chance to get into Dar during my work cycle. I have just rode my R1200GS from Oman down here and just rode down form Nairobi last Thursday. On my next break I might try and stop over in Dar for a couple of days and see what is happening there.

Peter, do you know if that bike is for sale still or did you buy it? A south African guy here is looking for something and was starting to look about.

Cheers
Ivan

Dar contact

Ivan,

Try the contact I mentioned above at the Royal Palm. If you can't find him, shoot me an email and we can talk.

I purchased my Tenere from an Indian in Dar who was always importing big bikes from Dubai. His name was Rafik, and his number a couple of years ago was Celtel 0748-314-455. He ran an electronics shop in the main market in Dar, so if you ask around there for him someone might be able to help you out.

Best,

Brian

Bikes in Dar

Hi Brian and Ivan,
I never heard back about the Tenere but for the past few months I've seen an indian guy riding a green and black Tenere which makes me think this was the bike. I bought a nice Honda 250xr from Rafik (mentioned by Brian) who over charged me but in the end I'm loving having the wheels through the traffic and it's perfect for the short trips out of town. I'll keep my ear out for any larger bikes. I recall seeing an ad for a KTM out at 'sea cliff' shopping center where lots of people advertise cars and the occasional bike on a bulletin board.
