This bike was built to take me to the desert in Nov 2002, I have just returned from a trouble free trip to morocco, the bike has covered just 6000km. It is now run in and ready to roll!!! Sadly I am now skint!
This is a bike genuinely ready to take you around the world right now with minimal costs (your choice of tyres, pads, and spockets!)
Then you need a new tank (bigger), new bars, new tyres, tubes, rimlocks, if your going somewhere hot you'll need an oil cooler, if you want a kick and electric start you're buggered, you'll want to add braided hoses, and you'll probably want minor chassis mods like a larger stand foot etc,
You'll also want a good x ring chain, and you'd probably want a heavy duty clutch if your into sand work,
for what its worth you may not want a perfectly new bike, factory prep is often not perfect, a few hours of chassis prep by a specialist to check it all over could well save you a lot of hassle later on (at considerable cost obviously).
Total cost of mods.......I guess £1500.
My bike isn't the best looking vehicle in the world, but its the best XT you can get (with mods), properly prep'd by an expert and its been tested in real conditions.
I know where I'd be spending my money!! I hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs, but when you're stuck 250km from anywhere you'd pay anything for that extra mod! I know, I have tried doing it on the cheap, and if it goes wrong it can really suck.....
I suppose I should also mention that the 1VJ isn't really the same bike as the new xt. The 1VJ was built as a genuine desert bike, it had a significantly different frame and oil tank configuration. The new xt is a road going/green laner, if you need details or advice regarding the differences post a couple of notes in the technical forum, Klaus or DL will explain all!!!
Nope, not just you, loads of interest but few people coughing up the cash, most people ring, chat, and waste my time. So, to answer the more common questions and save on the phone calls here are a few pointers!!!!
