If you are not interested in buying the bike please post with some tips on where to get the best price on this bike!!
I have a 97 XR 400 that I need to sell to help finance my graduate school. I am currently in Medellin but I plan on continuing south to Bolivia and hopefully Ushuaia, but if a good offer is made before then its sold without the trip to Ushuaia. The bike has a baja designs dual sport kit installed, along with a 200 watt high output stator that I installed, and a very bright headlight. It has a baggage rack on which I usually carry a waterproof duffel, sleeping bag, and thermarest, which can come with the bike if you want. Everything is in tip top mechanical condition, I have just replaced the rings and necessarily put new gaskets. The bike does not leak oil and had no mechanical problems whatsoever getting it to Colombia from California. The clutch(which was original) had started slipping so I just put in new discs. It should be good to go for a long time as long as the oil is changed regularly. I bought this bike from a professional mechanic who runs Hayasa Motorbikes in Oakland, CA. I can't recommend this shop enough to anyone traveling in california- honesty and quality beyond belief. The previous owner got it a couple years ago and completely redid it for traveling in Baja. I can't remember everything he did but I think besides the dual sport stuff the shocks, bearings, a complete rebuild and replaced some weak stock parts with aftermarket stuff, beefier skid plate and foot pegs. I can't remember though, but if you really want to know I can email him. It is absolutely incredible to ride this bike off road, it's like being in a dream. On straight aways on road though sometimes I wish I had more power, but I am glad that I don't have the extra weight of a 650 when I am offroad or picking it up out of the mud. Travel modifications are just the 22l acerbis tank (6 gallons) which has a very long range, sometimes 5-600 ks on one tank or more, depending on how you ride. It is geared tall for on road travel, but still does fine off road with a 15/39 combo. The headlight is also very bright. When I ride at night people think that my high beam is on when it's the low beam. Currently I have Mefo Explorers on it. By the time it's up for sale, it will have new tires, probably street legal knobbies, but if a buy requests in advance I can put whatever kinds of tires you want on it and hand it over with a few thousand k's on them. I also modified it mounting ktm passenger footpegs which is good if you want to give people rides. It also comes with a surprisingly handy glove box that mounts above the headlight. I keep the bikes documents and some simple tools in there for easy access. I also have a waterproof pouch for documents. Unfortunately the bike has the stock seat, but if a comfortable seat is a deal breaker I can have one made. The corbin seat costs 389 USD, and I can order it and install it for pickup but it will increase the price... For price I am looking to get 4600 US dollars or 3000 euro because I am going to University in Germany! The bikes papers are california, but for a serious buyer and maybe a few hundred extra euro I can deal with bureaucracy and have the bike legally imported and then have the title transfered to you. It may be more than a few hundred euros depending on the country. Or the title can just be switched in California. I can take care of this, buyer need not worry. So, an ideal bike for someone who wants to travel south america and focus more on all of the amazing off road riding here! Well there's my schpiel, but if anyone has recommendations on where to go to sell this bike for a good price, I am hoping for suggestions. I have seen that bikes of this quality selling for higher prices in latin america, and I've had people walk up to me on the street and offer me 3k US for it, but I didn't want to sell until I got accepted to uni. I am basing my price on the XR 250 I saw someone selling in chile for 2k, and the subsequent post that says it could sell for 3500. This bike doesn't actually weight too much more than the 250 and it just kicks ass... I really am in love with it and wish I had the money to have it shipped to europe. Any suggestions on where to go to sell it? Best price in Chile, Argentina? Where are the papers easiest to import it? Thanks for reading! Alex to contact me use my email epicurus68@yahoo.com I also have a mobile in Colombia but I don't have the number handy. |
