Wanted - Honda Africa Twin - UK

I'm new to this game so please excuse my questions if they appear obvious.

I'm London based, but am willing to travel for the right bike. Upto 3k

Everything that I've seen for offer (autrader etc) seem well overpriced compared to the guide price in Parkers.....anybody any idea why?

Wink

Hi rick, welcome to the HUBB seems to be appropriate.

If you think they are expensive, take a look at recent posts on here about pushbikes!!

IMO, the AT is still attractive to quite a few Honda enthusiasts (I have had an inclination to own one but have never quite got around to it).
Taking into account that they are not available new any longer, I guess the prices are maintained by lack of supply.

However, I suggest that you do a national search in the likes of ebay/autotrader etc (just in case you have not up to now).
Also, you might consider searching within Europe because dual sport bikes have always been more popular on the continent.

With winter on the way, you are in a buyers market though; hang on a bit, and the right one will appear. In the meantime, you might consider a different DS bike?

Cheers Dave

What search sites would you recommend for a european bike? I have a read a couple of hreads saying that French bikes are cheaper, then to read completely contradictory replies.......confused!!!!!

You reckon hold on a bit for the winter? I have tried the searhces you recommended, still not many for sale...are there any other websie shat you can think of?

What oher bike would you recomend?

I'm perfectly prepared to accept that an old bike will break down on a long trip, my main concern is that of getting spare parts. I (I my ignorance) reckon that Jap bikes will be fairly easy to source parts in E Europe/Asia as compared to BMW/Aprillia/KTM.....am I right.

Ta

Rick

ps thanks for the welcome!!!

Rick,
you will find more info on the Africa Twins, the different models and some for sale at
Honda Trail Bike Forums - Powered by vBulletin

A good place to find german bikes and check prices is.
mobile.de - the car market for second-hand and new vehicles

And if you are looking for alternatives concider the Transalp.

Steve

Hi Rick,
I have just read this on another thread (thanks Michelle!):-

"I advertised on Ebay, through which I ended up selling it privately to a guy who hadn't bid on it. MCN and Loot and the Gum Tree (I had quite a few enquiries through the Gum Tree.) And also, don't forget to post it up in a few of the mechanics shops around and Hein Gerricke also have a billboard for advertising bikes. You can look in ebay using the advanced search option and that will bring up bikes for sale worldwide if you want that, or just in, say, Europe.
I have read those same threads - thing is to find one or more for sale and then make the judgement; be patient basically for the right one to come along in the winter; I bought a Honda Blackbird a few years ago for an excellent price (to me) in mid-October.
As they say in the ads, peoples circumstances change all the time and bikes will come up for sale.

Other bikes: you really need to read into this forum and the bike tech forums -- there is loads of feedback in here about "which bike". Maybe too much, you will go around in circles in your thoughts.

Hi,

It's always the last place that you'd expect to look.
The Kawasaki workshop in Kuwait has a mint 1996 Africa Twin with only 6000 kilometres on it. the guy wants 1500 KD which equates to £2650.
