Thanks as usual, You normally have a solution to my problems, but this one is little far away!
As it happens I have compromised and bought an s model instead. I'm not too concerned about the power output loss, but I'd sure like to lose some weight off it. So I'll be doing a 'slimming exercise' before I head off anywhere serious on it.

The bike itself was a bargain and comes with a bashplate, case savers, unabiker rad guards, large IMS tank etc etc. a 2005 model with less than 5000 miles on it its a lovely clean bike.

As long as I can make it expedition worthy by Christmas my life will be just fine!
