I am looking for a bike suitable to travel the South Island of New Zealand in November, 2008

I will be coming off of the Antarctic ice around the 15th of November.

I would be willing to buy a bike to resell back, work out a short term compensation program, or exchange my VFR750 in Colorado if desired.

My base of operations will be Christchurch. Anticipated duration of travel is 4 weeks.

Any info or suggestions appreciated. Also looking for 58cm road bicycle for the same duration, if anyone has one for sale/use.

Another Polie! I have had the pleasure of the company of Mountain Eagle Miller (a sparkie, from Denver), who worked down there for a number of summers, and stayed with me on his way through. He was a keen rider and borrowed a bike from me a couple of times.
I will spread the word and see what I can dredge up for you.
At the very least, how about we meet for a beer and some riding stories?

Did BoulderGeek find a bike? If so, is it going to be up for sale in Feb 2009?
I'm looking for a similar setup...buy,tour South Island and North Island for 5-6 weeks, sell and head home to UK.
I'll need full pannier kit to accomodate wife's change of clothes.

No sorry mate, I never heard from him again. I will keep an ear open for you though.
