WANTED: Bike in India or Nepal in Sept 2008

Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible for a foreigner on a travel visa to buy a motorbike in india/nepal, get a carnet for it and rides off with it out of india/nepal, into pakistan, iran, turkey and eventually into the rest of europe?

If so, I am interested in getting one. Does anyone know where I can buy a bike? Brand New or Second hand, it does not matters. So long as it reliable and can take me into europe. How much would it cost? What are the paperwork that needs to be done? How long does it take to settle all these?

I only have from sept 2008 to jan 2009. So, let's say that I managed to reach europe in Jan 2009, can I sell off the bike in Europe or do I have to send it back to india for sale?

Sorry if my questions sounds stupid to you. It is because I have never buy a bike in a foreign country before.

Thanks in advance.

India Bullet

Happy Riding,

There are so many travellers selling second hand bikes in India which are much cheaper than new. You will see notices in every guesthouse on Pahar Ganj in New Delhi - where most travellers tend to hang-out.
The problem you may experience with a new one is a getting a permanent address for reg.. There is an Enfield dealer in the 'Karol Bag?? area of New Delhi - very helpful and speaks good english. And you will need to sort your Carnet for Pakistan and Iran before you arrive in India. You dont need one for Nepal.

Ride On
