From Chhetrapati go North into Thamel. Shortly on the right there is a small looking bike shop with a few bikes parked there. You have to enter here and pass through a kind of basement passage to get to the repair shop. When I was there a few months ago they had several different Honda XRs for sale, 250-400 cc.

maybe the good old enfield will do...

Dear beddhist,

thanks a lot for your help! will check out the bikeshop.

but so far it looks like as if the last Japanese off road bike was imported around 10 years ago. And for the old stuff they sell here they want ridicules lots of Nepali Rupis. (F.E. a used Honda XR 250cc from 1993 for around 3200 Euros (!)) cracy, ai!

I might change my mind and go for a good old Enfield! At least there is already a forum for "buying enfields in Nepal" :-)

But thanks anyways!

buying an Enfield in Kathmandu

Try the Himalayan Enfielders on Lazimpat, the same lane as the Israeli Embassy. They prepared a 350 for a guy who is riding back to the UK. I believe he is now in Iran. I am awaiting an email from him and I will post a reply on the HUBB.

They should be able to tell you what paperwork he had.

Also why not consider a Pulsar. I have been riding a 150 around Nepal for three years with no problems and excellent economy.

Good luck

fantastic

...so it is possible!!!

That's the best news I've heard for a long long time.
So somebody actually managed to buy a Enflield in Kathmandu
and to drive it across the middle east to Europe, great!

Will check the Himalayan Enfielders today!

Please let us know how your friend was able to get all the
necessary documents together, especially the carnet for the EF
- that still seems to be impossible (?)

Thanks for your contribution.

Hi Kathmandu,

I was told, by India customs, in 2003, that you could no longer ride, back to Europe on an India registered bike!

Himalayan Enfielders, good people, say Hi for me. I ride a white R80 BMW called Changeling.

That's why people buy them in Nepal, where you can get a carnet for it.
