Hola Everyone outhere gunning for the cause...
If someone outhere winding up an epic adventure in Jan next year and looking to keep your moto on the road long after she has satisfied you, I'm good for it. Either Venezuela, Colombia or Ecuador in January 2009. Ideally 750+ with no shiny surfaces. I have bee looking on tumoto.com but the prices are incredibly expensive. I'm also comtemplating buying in USA and riding down through Central America. Look forward to your positive replies. dylan

Hi,
I've been advertising a BMW R850GS on here for a month or 2, and round in Quito. I had quite a bit of "interest" but always turns out to be hot air with no money. The advert is on page 2 on the hubb, 4 sale section. I have nearly had enough and have been looking to ship it home, as i don't have the energy to ride round the continent again following up the offers i got first time round. In the post i was asking $6000 with everything then reduced to $5500. so now would accept $5000 and find a place to put it in storage here in Quito for you. I have been living and working here for the last 6 months so have people i can trust in that respect. I know it is a long time in storage and you are planning well ahead but at least you would know it was a done deal. I am returning to the UK soon so the UK registration would be easy to sort out. It would however require trust on your part. As you have noted it is very expensive to buy big bikes here. and unfortunately for me $6000 seemed to be out of the price range for budget bikers willing to take a riskon paperwork etc. But as you appear to have a london address that isn't a problem. The bike is a bit rough round the edges but runs fine. i started to clean it up a bit to sell, but then have been using it agian the last month, to visit all the places i missed first time. i just had an accident last week and a rocker cover is damaged, but i can repair that quickly anyway. If you are looking for cheaper, there are plenty of KLR650's kicking about, either local or other travellers. the last dutchman that wanted to buy mine opted for that instead. there are plenty in Ecuador and you can buy on ecuadorian plates an travel, i have been told. there might be a few V stroms around 2nd hand by the time you get here. but they are $16000 new, and things hold their value here 2Âșnd hand very well. Even if you are not interested in mine hope the info helps. There is an american or canadian R100GS in storage here aswell. i think its Mr Rons. it is mentioned inanother post. he is asking more for it but it is is good condition, and has had plenty on mods done to it. It you are interested in talking more or have any questions i might be able to help you with, email me here or direct to mother77@gmail.com cheers mike |

Hey Mike,
Thanks for your emails... and your patience. As plans go, forever changing, I'm now flying into Los Angeles and will be looking to buy a bike in San Diego and ride down through Central America to SA; so i'll be in the market for a bike there now. Cheers for the info. Your right, the bikes do seem expensive to buy there - on my budget anyway - hence my decision to by in CA. It'd be great to hear about your ride, drop'us a line when your back in the UK if you like. Thanks again dylan |
