WANTED: 2 bikes for sept 06, south america somewhere...
Hey,
this is my first post, and i thought i'd put it out there for anyone who may be travelling through SA right now, and are thinking of wrapping up their journey in September (or thereabouts) this year.
My mate and i are going to embark on our south american odyssey in September, and will need a couple of trusty steeds to take us the distance, north, east south and west... all over hopefully...
ideally we are looking for two of the same bikes, or at least similar models with interchangeable parts, that are fairly priced and ready to rumble.
our original idea was to start in Brasil, but from what i've been reading, it might not be the easiest place to buy/transfer bike ownership, so we are flexible as to where we start our crazy adventure.
look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone...
cheers, and safe travels

Possible match?
My wife and I are leaving Argentina the first of August and have decided to sell our bikes, if possible.
Here is a description of the bikes and accessories:
Each bike is a 2005 F650GS with; ABS, upgraded (Dakar) windshield, Throttle Meisters (cruise control), front fork boots, Aerostich tank panniers (large size), heated grips, extra accesorry power outlet, KLN air filters, in-line fuel filters, Jesse luggage rear panniers, Givi 55 liter top box, engine guards over the original skid plate, hand guards and Baehr intercom systems. Both bikes have their luggage systems keyed so one key can work on both bikes.
My bike has emergency flashers and Lynne's has the lowering kit.
Also included:
A (never-used) 2 person tent, repair manual in CD format, two sets of spark plugs, a spare clutch cable, 2 oil filters, spare clutch and front brake lever, electric air pump (CyclePump), tool kit, air gauge, voltmeter, two (fullsize) bike covers, chain breaker, tire repair kit, spair tubes for front and rear tires. Also included is spare light bulbs for every light on each bike except for the instrument panel and the one brake light I repalced on Lynne's bike.
There may be a few other things you want, like helmets and riding gear. As of this moment they have 16,000 miles on them and I have their service records for the 6,000 and 12,000 mile inspections. New chains and sprockets were put on at 12,000 bikes.
You can see pictures of the bikes at our website www.strollsouth.com - "gallery 1" has several pics of the bikes, as do other pages.
I offer them to you at US$8,000 per bike. Of course, any purchase would be contingent upon your inspection.

hey lynne and tom,
thanks for your post,
unfortunately, apart from your bikes being available a bit too early in the piece for my mate and i, your very amazing bikes are unfortunately out of our financial reach.
looking at your website i have to congratulate you on attempting and also succeeding on another wonderful motorbike based adventure. the best of luck to the both of you, and look forward to reading the updates on your website.
also, if our situation changes, we will be the first to give you a bell, plus, if you anyone can help us with sorting out some sort of sponsorship, all would be welcomed and most humbly appreciated.
thank you once again,
nick and luke

Interested
Hello,
I am planning to start my SA odyssey at the start of December from BA and might be interested in purchasing one of your bikes. I just need to look into the costs of getting mine over there etc etc. So please keep me in mind and let me know how the sale goes.
My email address is on my website.
Cheers,
Annette

more dates and info....
hi again,
we've booked our tickets, and are arriving into santiago on the 14th September, 2006, and plan to pick up a couple of bikes there.
from what i've been reading recently on the hubb, and the fact i left this out earlier, in my first post, i should have mentioned that i am looking for bikes with a lower (or adjustable) ride height, as some bikes are just too high for me... so if anyone out there knows of any Dr650's, 650GS's or the like, drop a post on here and we can start chatting.
our budget is not big for our bikes, ($2000USD approx each) but if there are bikes that are equipped with extras and are a little bit more, then we are happy to hear about those too.
look forward to some replies, but understand that it is still a while until we actually arrive into santiago.
cheers guys

Hi Running on empty,
I think you might struggle to find what you are looking for within your budget.
We are selling two bikes which might be of interest, but more expensive.
Check out the posts in the South America and Bike selling forums...

Hi Jens,
i had a look thru your posts, and cannot find the price you guys are wanting to sell the bikes for? i might just be blind, but i had no success.
also, another question, what ride height does the yamaha come in at? i did a bit of a google and found that it sits at around 85cm, which is too high for my short legs. is it possible to lower the seat? i'd be looking for around 30" or 75cm???
have been reading some of your blogs... sounds like an awesome trip you guys are on...
cheers

Nick,
the reason you can't find the price has nothing to do with your eyes. There isn't one. We were looking for about USD4200 per bike (including the luggage and some other stuff).
I'm still thinking of keeping mine, so the offer might go down to one bike, depending on what I can get in x-mas hols....
Regarding the seat height, I will have to check. The suspension has been lowered a bit and Kate (5'6") can just touch the ground with both feet. I donīt think there is any provision for lowering the seat without touching the suspension, and I don't know if there is any room for adjustment left in the suspension...will find out, though....

Hey Jens,
sweet, it's good to know my eyes aren't failing me just yet... (got a few miles to cover in the next 6 months.) the bikes are definitely a bit over what my mate and i were expecting to pay, but we will definitely keep them in mind, as time begins to run out, etc. plus your bikes have the benefit of being kitted out already. also, i'm 5'8" so maybe the ride height won't be such an issue.
cheers,
hope you guys are still cruising thru South America with smiles on your dials.
