Good luck with the sale Alan. Shame you've got to sell under duress! But bikes come and go, your body is much more important. You're lucky you've got free med care. My ordeal cost over $200,000 USD and that was in 1998. Today, it's triple that cost.
I had a compound fracture that would not heal as well. After 3 failed operations I finally I found a specialist in Los Angeles who did the job correctly. All good since (1998) During my 2 years of operations and recovery I learned quite a bit, let me know if you need any words of encouragement or advice. I am also personal friends (riding buddy) with an Orthopedic surgeon if you have technical questions. Don't waste time with amateurs who literally only practice medicine but are just not good at what they do. I had a Tibia break (compound) and lost bone material at the time of the crash. They put a rod in, which is the common fix but won't work when too much bone is missing. Too much of a gap, won't heal and even though you can walk with the rod in, nothing is in alignment, which is critical for you as you age. In my case the bone would not heal and it all started to bend. My Dr. is world class and literally wrote the book on complicated Tibia breaks. He teaches at USC Med School (Los Angeles) and taught Dr. Arthur Ting, famous Orthopedic surgeon to all the Moto GP Stars all the way back to Mick Doohan. Google him. He does everything besides Tibia and people show up from all over to world to see him. Cheers! |

![]() You can Google Arther Ting or Dr. Donald Wiss. Dr. Wiss works at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute. Just about every major racer in the last 20 years has used Dr. Ting. But Ting specializes in "quick fix get you back on the bike" stuff. Many have problems after racing. Wiss fixes you for good. My break was so severe they thought about amputation. I now walk without a limp and nearly full strength in the leg and best of all NO PAIN. Alignment is the key to all of it. If it's done crooked, you're screwed. |
