two bikes wanted in Santiago
Hi all
I am currently in Santiago, Chile with my brother, we are looking for two bikes for a trip to Argentina and Brazil. We have been looking in the local newspapers and some internet sites, motonet,mercadolibre etc but haven't found too many for the right price, around 2000 US$, we are idealy looking for NX650 Dominators, XL650 Transalps,Yamaha XT600 etc. We would appreciate any info on other sites or even garages and places outside of Santiago to look for suitable bikes, Thanks in advance

Hi Owen,
I just left a responce for you on your other post (where you asked about bike clubs). We bought an Africa Twin in Santiago in Nov we paid more for it than we would have here in the UK! the ONLY other bike we found at the time was a KLR650 which was at Maico Moto's ( just off Vitacura - I can't remember the street name but take a right [coming from town] at the bimota dealers and it's down there) We got our Africa Twin from Guarda Motos on Vitacura. Check out Vincent danna's post, we gave all the details there.
Good luck and get in touch if you need any more info.
I guess you know all about the RUT number etc?....
Cheers...Zade & Melissa.

hello
some info i received from jon :
Chile keeps records of bike in and out of country, so enter country with bike, must leave with bike. Will contact embassy if possible for tourists. Peru and Bolivia is possible to sell in. Think it can be done legally. Border crossings no problem if papers are in order.
Bike is dr650, 2001 with about 38,000 miles. No poblems...great running bike, for $2500.

Hi Vincent/all
we have now bought one bike XT600E from a garage and they are going to sort out all of the paperwork, should be done in 7 days.
If you buy a bike as a private sale then its necessary to use a notaria to change over the ownership of the bike, there is one in the center of Santiago that will do this with a temporary RUT{tax number} they are Notaria Maria Gloria Archaran Toledo and the street is Av. Matias Cousino 154 , the telephone number is 4903700 from the Paginas Amarillas {Yellow Pages}
We are staying in a hostel near to the Bellavista area its Hostel Forestal, Coronel Santiago Bueras 120, Parque Forestal, Santiago, tel {56} {2} 6381347 , email hostalforestal@hotmail.com the price is $6,000 pessos about 7 pounds for a bed in the mixed dorm. Its a good spot near to the metro and also near to the bus routes, the staff are very good and friendly. Have a good trip
