You can import them at any age as long as you pay the duty and get a Certificate of conformity or SVA.. Unless you get one the same age as when they were last sold here which if im correct, was AGES ago !

I have UK registered DR 650 1996. However no MOT or Tax.

I bought the bike from a dealer last January and did a bit of Europe last year with it.

Bike has service history up to 12,000. thats when i bought it. On the clock it has 16,200 miles. The bike has never let me down.

ONLY thing is that its in France.

Selling for £1000. ono

There's a post on Bikes for sale/wanted. DR for sale.France

There are some pics of the bike.

MOT and Tax ran out in January.

The only bad part of the bike is there is a tight spot on the chain. Would benefit a new chain and sprocket set but doesn't need it in my opinion.

OH and its in France

Anyway...

Regards
Mike

The DR650SE modle was never imported "officially" into the UK. The SE model came along in 1996. ALL NEW. I would NOT recommend a pre '96 DR650S or earlier model. You may find these in the UK, but I'd pass on them.

The SE is THE ONE you want.

I'm not sure if the DR650SE is currently imported into to any Euro countries. Because it's got a CARB, it may not be. But I'm guessing if you searched German and French classifieds, you may find good used ones floating around as the bike WAS imported recently and is supported in Germany and France.

Best years are from around 2003 to present. But really ... ALL the SE's are pretty good. The one shown above has been lowered. Suzuki provide a way to lower the bike about an inch and a half, front and back. The bike rides fine this way but if riding off road, the standard height is best.

In California DR650's are fairly common for sale and cheap. From around $2500 up to around $4500 for newish, low miles example. Pretty cheap by
UK standards.

What most folks don't realize is just how well the DR650 stands up against the competition. With a dry weight of 324 lbs. , it's nearly matching bikes in the 250 class and pretty well smokes all but the KTM in the 650 class.

Power is modest, fuel economy is only so so at around 50 MPG per US gallon.
(probably 60 MPG UK gallon). Parts and upgrades are inexpensive and plentiful in Germany and the USA.

The rear Sub Frame and Frame is one of the toughest made. Load her up, she can take it. (BAJA tested!) Simple, a doodle to work on, nearly maintenance free (really!) and reliable as a stone.
