Talking Super Tenere XTZ750 COMPLETELY set up for touring in Capetown avail end Feb 2011

leaving Capetown soon...Super Tenere XTZ750 COMPLETELY set up for touring.

This is a great opportunity for someone who doesnt want to ship their bike into Africa.
For the price of shipping from Anywhere, you can buy this bike already set up.
She is a 1996 Maroon super tenere. We have done tonnes of modifications.
She has an Ohlins shock, super strong, reinforced givi racks, Bagster tank protection, very comfortable modified gel seat with Australian sheep skin cover, tool box under engine, with all the tools you will ever need!
The mileagage is just over 100,000 and we have maintained and serviced her regularly. We dont take her on bad dirt roads.
We will sell Miss Adventure II for US$5,000 (R35,000) and will contemplate selling everything, ie 3 Givi boxes, helmets, jackets, gloves, everything needed to do a trip for not much extra.
Belinda is size small and Pat is size large.
Check out lots of photos on www.horizonsunlimited.com/tstories/peck
We are currently near Capetown if you want to see the bike,
We will be leaving Capetown and finished with the bike 20 Feb 2011.

Call on(+27) 0727 099 042 (South Africa) or reply here.
The bike has been maintained well and given us NO PROBLEMS.
She is ready to keep going another 100,000km.
The cost to ship her back to Australia prevents us from shipping her home, as much as we would love to keep her.
Let us know if you are keen!

Talking Bike registration

A few people have asked us about the registration being in Australia.
Its simple...keep it registered in Australia!!
We have done this before when we sold our bike in South America.
If you are keen on the bike and this is the only thing holding you back..dont let it as there are many reasons why this is a bonus.
Call us on 0727 099 042 or come and see us near Tableview, Capetown til 9 Jan.

Hiya Pat/Bel,

I've enjoyed reading about your travels. Great stuff.

Since you've travelled extensively you'd be aware of the need for a carnet for many countries (partic. in Africa), Aussie rego documents (to prove ownership), etc. These may be difficult to obtain if a non-Aussie bought the bike?

Talking paperwork

Hi kalaharigeorge,
Glad you have enjoyed our blogs.
As you know we have come from Europe to South Africa.
We needed a carnet for the North Africa countries, but NOT for South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho and Mozambique. We sent our carnet back when we got to South Africa and have been to all these countries since and didnt need the carnet.
As you know, there are MANY countries around the world that dont need a carnet, in fact I think we have only had a carnet for 2 of our many trips!

As far as paperwork goes, it will require thinking outside the square.
We have done it before when we sold a super tenere in Chile and know many travellers who have sold their foreign registered bikes out of their country..it happens everyday! It makes no difference if its an Aussie or non Aussie that buys the bike..the paperwork will be the same.

"If you want something to happen there are ways to make it happen!"

Let us know if you are keen and we can give you more details by private message.

Regards, Patrick and Belinda Peck and Miss Adventure II

Sold?

I'm not totally convinced about the ease of paperwork .. but am open to all suggestions. I'm interested!

In particular how can a non-Australian person obtain a carnet, which presumably must be an Australian issued carnet because the bike is registered in that country? ADAC no longer issues carnets to non-residents.

Perhaps the idea is to use an Australian address to register the bike (therefore transfer ownership) then apply to the Australian automobile association for a carnet?

Did you manage to sell the bike?

Cheers

Xtz 750

Good Morning,
There are a few ways to transfer the bike to you:

-As we have just done in Europe is to have a letter of Authorized use, to allow you unrestricted use to cross any borders you desire for a period of 30 years.
We now own a 50% share of a Super Tenere in Europe and had no problems last summer travelling over 6 months.
This will work anywhere you do not need a carnet, which is most of the world except Northern Africa and the Middle East. We travelled through North and South America without a Carnet. We can give you a bill of sale as well in case you need it.

-Others have recommended bringing it into South Africa as parts and resurect it on paper for registration.

-There is a fellow in Cape Town who is importing used bikes and may have some suggestions: Johan ph 083 273 7660

-Others have suggested using photoshop to put your name on the Australian registration but is not legal and incurs risks.

While the bike is under Australian Rego I don't see a way of getting a carnet.

Let us know if you can find a way through this and would like to see the bike.

Cheers Patrick
