FOR SALE (UK): 2003 BMW R1150GS Adventure - RTW ready

This is a RTW prep'd and Africa tested GS1150 Adv with all the BMW extras and essential Touratech goodies - and not forgetting paniers and an army ammo box which soon replaced the inferior BMW kit.
The story so far...

May '03 (0 miles) - Bike collected from Duncan at Vines of Guildford

May '03 (356 miles) - bike returned to Vines on a transporter having broken down on the M1. Autopsy revealed snapped timing chain resulting in 6 week wait for new engine from Munich.

Aug '03 (893 miles) - 600 mile service at Vines (on new engine)

Dec '03 (1200 miles) - Ferry to Bilbao

Jan '04 (6255 miles) - 6000 mile service at Dakar Yamaha. (Dakar BMW don't touch bikes...)

August '04 (11,000 miles) - shipped back to the UK from Ghana and put to bed.

Nov '04 (11,130 miles) - Full service at CW Dorchester including new starter motor and shocks under warranty.

Today - just 11,145 miles - still sleeping in the garage in West Dorset, UK

The Spec:

R1150GS Adventure May '03 - Silver, including these extras:

- Heated grips
- Enduro gear box
- Heated grips
- Large fuel tank
- Engine protection bars
- ABS
- Remus muffler & Y-piece
- BMW orginal muffler and cat. Y-piece (unused)
- K&N air filter
- Continental TKC80 Twinduro tyres (new)
- Aluminium panniers - by Vern (www.projectvnd.com)
- Army ammo case - top box
- BMW Motorrad Streetpilot III GPS w/dedicated power, car adpator and Garmin s/w including European streetmap and World Map CD's, manuals + original packaging

Total cost - £12,550

Touratech extras:

Hard part £78
Headlight protector grill £49
Auxiliary xenon headlight £273
Aluminium oil cooler protector £33
Silver side panels £35
Aluminium rear sump guard £35
Locking oil cap £32

Total cost - £535

Baglux tank cover (silver/red) - unused £95
Baglux tank cover (black) - well used.. therefore the tank is unmarked

Essential new spares for remote travelling:

Fuel injector
Timing sensor
Spark plugs
Fuel filter
Oil filter and removal key
Bulbs
Spokes

Total cost: £200?

Grand total cost: £13,375

Now for sale at £8,700 (will take $ or €)

The bike is in very good condition and has never been crashed (...although dropped in the sand a couple of times). The panniers are a bit scuffed but not damaged, having been properly used and being the one part of the bike that has regular contact with the world. The bike comes with all documentation and receipts.

Some folks say I can make more money selling the extras separately - I say you can save more buying them collectively :-)

Reason for sale: Sadly, it's not getting used.

To post a photo, (on most any BB) it needs to be on one of the many free photo sites such as yahoo, then you just link to it. When you make a new post, click on the "UBB code is on" link on the left of this dialog box for full info.

How hard would it be to import the bike back to the US?

Thanks,

Jim

I don't think you'll get £8,700 for it although it's worth it. I also think you'll get more for it selling it standard with just a few aftermarket parts fitted.

If you were to sell parts separately, I'd buy the silver sidepanels & possibly the Vern's panniers & rails also.

Hi Jim

People are shipping vehicles back and forth across the atlantic all the time - by air and sea. I think you'll find info elsewhere on this site and the dedicated GS owner sites. I'm not sure on the duty situation when permanently shipping from the UK to the US but that info should be around too.

It cost me US$600 to ship the bike from Ghana to the UK which is the same distance as to the US east coast.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the offer. I'll have a go at putting them up on Yahoo b4 I take up your offer.

The bike's no use to me without the panniers so the bike needs to sell first. If someone takes it without, I'll let you know.

Cheers

Right click on the image, and select properties. That will give you the "address" or "url" of the actual jpg file, and away you go!

I'd be very careful about importing bikes from the UK to the USA. I gave up on bringing my 650 into the US a few years back after confronting layers of byzantine US bureacracy. Essentially they (customs/DOT etc.) wanted a letter from BMW stating the differences between the US and UK models, and documentation stating that those differences had been made good. BMW was not going to play, and the $$ to change the bike was insane....
There are some firms that say they will do this for you, but I had no joy with them - they just threw it back to me.

I have been asked how much the bike would be if sold without the after market accessories. So here it is...

R1150GS Adventure May '03 - Silver, including:

- Heated grips
- Enduro gear box
- Heated grips
- X-Large fuel tank
- Engine protection bars
- ABS
- Remus silencer & Y-piece (sounds much better)
- BMW orginal silencer and cat. Y-piece (unused)
- K&N air filter
- Continental TKC80 Twinduro tyres (brand new rear, nearly new front)

Price £7,700 (or equivalent euros/dollars)

Just so that you don't miss out here, the bike has just been advertised in the newspaper for £7,300 or £8,300 depending on your preference.
