Dear Pierre,

Could you tell if these bikes are still for sale? I only need the one though!

I am in San Fran, recently wrote my R1150GS Adv off just west of Bakersfield so I am on the look out for a new bike, check out www.thebigbiketrip.com for pictures and info on what I have done and will be doing in the future.

I am from the UK and will be heading into Mexico in October, then central America, South America then Asia home so as they are french bikes I have no problem.

I am currently in San Enselmo but have a vehicle so I can get anywhere within the area.

Look forward to hear from you

Regards

Robin

PS Might be best if you contact me on my email rob@thebigbiketrip.com

also interested in the bike...

Wanted first to let you know that my little sister's name is also Merritt, spelled the same way.

I'm interested in one of the bikes. Here's my situation:

I am an American planning on riding in Europe next summer (starting in June) then on to far off lands after that. I have a friend in France that can register the bike under his name, although from what it sounds like, you wouldn't mind the bike being registered under your name (and mine of course).

Question: Can I purchase the bike now and ride it with European plates in the States until June?

Question: What is the cost of getting a bike from the States over to Europe by boat? plane?

Those are the two biggest questions for the time being. Please get back to me at

GS sale and traning

Pierre,

I am interested in one of your GSs. I live in Denmark and have plans for coming to the US soon (at the end of this year) to travel in the US and Centeral America. Possible also into SA.
The worry that I have is that if the title is in both yours and my name I might have problems at boarder crossings in central or south America. Boarder officials will se 2 names on the title and that might confuse them and stop me from entering or exiting countries.

I understand that you are an experienced traveller on 2 wheels and have a lot of 1st hand knowlege. Would you be interested in meeting up and train me a bit.. Particularly the tire repair/change is something that I will need sooner or later during my trip. If you are interested in meeting up in San Francisco once I get my bike and teach me a few survival skills I would really appreciate it. I will pay you for your time and knowlege so consider this a short term job offer
I have dreams of travelling but not the skills yet. Particularly the mechanical part is lacking experience and knowlege. You might also have a lot of suggestions to routes I can take through Mexico and beyond and a lot of other valuable words to pass on to a rookie.

Hi Jesper, no problem with having 36 names on the title as long as yours is on it. That's what we did with Merritt too.

If you buy one of our bikes, you can stay with us and basically arrive empty-handed (or just with a couple of socks and t-shirts) and we'll have you outfitted and ready to go in no time. If you need to buy any riding gear, camping gear or electronic stuff, do it here in the US, it's much cheaper. You can order stuff and have it shipped to our address if you like. We can give you recommendations for that too.

Otherwise we are always glad to help, especially if you bring some . We'll show you how to take care of the mechanic and plan for a trip you won't forget.

[Merritt says: "you won't find a better researcher and planner than Pierre"]

Cheers,
Pierre

Questions!

Hello dear friends I never knew I had in SF,

I am a med student at UCSF and bought a one way ticket to South America in Sept. I am buying a bike down here and riding home! Who would have thought I could make that one a reality. So here is what I have found for my self. I will tell you the whole story later on....I have meet a friend with your exact bike but he has moved to Peru where the bike is. The bike was purchased in 2005 in Onterio, Canada and that is where the title and registration are from. I am going to buy the bike and ride home to SF in May!

How long can I have the bike in the US before they become unhappy that it is from Canada! I am tentatively planning a trip to Canada to sell the bike there in 2009. I would love to keep the bike and keep registering it in Canada until I take my next trip to Asia but that will be after residency in 4 years or so. That is why I may sell the bike. I do not have residency in Canada but this guy does and will continue to work with me after I take over his bike. This adventure crew is so much fun. This is my first forey into this world and I am loving it already....though a fully loaded bike is totally new to me compared with my sport bike at home. Any info or experiences will be loved. See you when I return home.

Are the bikes sold yet!!

Hello,

I am a traveler in South America who is looking to make a ride back to the US in April or May and I wanted to see if anyone here on the Hubb bought the bikes and was thinking about a trip to south america. If you are and were considering what to do with the bikes when you got here we could work out plan for me to buy the bike from you and I would ride it back to the US. I would then pass the bike to another adventurous soul and the bike would continue to travel here in the Americas. You can email me at hahrns@yahoo.com since this thread may be out of use. Hope to hear from someone if this is an option.

All the best for fellow travelers.รง
Hadjh

My buddy and I are in SF and are planning on heading to Europe in spring 2009 and trying to locate the biggest obstacle (so far): the bikes. Please let me know if we can swing by and buy them both up!

Thanks!
