Ok, well its a sad day but thanks to the Algerian authorities insistance on guides throughtout the Saharan regions it seems I dont have a use for a bike until 2008. And its a bit long to leave it sat in the Garage doing nothing....So: For Sale, my 2003 KTM 640 Adventure in Silver.

Its a totally standard bike with no alterations or modifications. The colour silver is perfect for the slightly lower attention grabbing individual and/or travelling experience (i.e. it doesnt scream 'steal something valuable here!!!').

If you want one of these bikes the 2003 model was THE bike to own. It had the modifications to the engine bearings and the high flow head which made the engine an impressively reliable and powerful lump (you may question the words KTM and reliability in the same sentence but after the 2003 model was released these bikes are now doing 60000 miles and more with no probs or mods if looked after well), it had the the hydraulic clutch, the single front disk (the only way to go if you intend to use the bike off road), the high front fender, the comfort seat, the switchable CDI unit, etc etc. And its a genuine 2003 bike, NOT a 2002 registered in '03, there's a BIG difference!!!

It has had a new front wheel in response to the KTM recall, has 10 months Tax, two sets of part worn tyres, and has been regularly serviced by me for the last 8000 miles. i.e. its had three services, all with fully synthetic oil and in accordance with the service schedule. The bike has now covered 9700 miles.

I've used the bike for two trips. Once last year to ride to Finland and back to take part in the 'All Road Tour' and once this summer for a trip to the Pyrenees with my better half. Although the bike has been dropped from a stationary position (Disk lock on in the middle of Helsinki....NOT cool..), it has never been dropped in anger whilst moving (that says more about the bikes incredible off road performance than my riding ability). It has some very light scratches to th forward edges of the tank sides, and a bit of peeling paint on the front screen area (size of a 10p piece, dunno how that happened, it came that way). Other than that its in excellent condition.

I can deliver for a fee and am happy to post photos and discuss the merits or otherwise of the model in an honest or open way if you're not sure if this bike is for you.

I'm looking for £3500 but as always there is room for discussion if I feel the bike is going to a good home or for good use. Money isnt everything after all!

Erm, right then. Just had a quick look around and it seems that £3500 is a little steep for the '03 model. Shall we try again with an asking price of £3000? Then I might actually sell it!

Hi there. I'd be interested in seeing photos of your bike please. I currently ride a Suzuki SV but used my boyfriends 640 adv (he was on 950 adv) for our trip to Norway in June and really enjoyed the bike, so with more trips in mind I'm looking to change to the KTM. Are you in a hurry to sell the bike as I would have to sell my SV first (unless you would consider part-X?). Also, I'm off to Portugal tomorrow for a few days and not back until next Thursday.

Actually if you're serious then I'm not in that much of a hurry. I assume we could say that you could hope to sell your SV in three/four weeks? As long as you could give me some assurances that the KTM would have swapped hands by Mid August then that's good for me. I'll stick you down as No.1 on the list and try to mail you some pics of the bike tonight. Sad to say that they look exactly the same as every other grey 640 Adv you can find photos of on the net....'cos there are no mods! The stickers you see on the photos have been removed.

The bike has never suffered any drops whilst moving although I have dropped it stationary whilst pushing along with a disk lock on in Helsinki as the bumpf above says. I bought it from the dealer who originally supplied it with 1700 miles on it. It had been in the dealers for sale for 1 year at that point and was only 18 months old, so the only history I dont know is that first six months. I am the second owner. As far as I know its a straight a bike as you'll find anywhere. Its had no repairs or work done on it except for for the three services I've given it. Its definately not stolen and recovered, and the V5 is clean.

I am currently in Manchester and I'll post some pics tonight for everyone thats interested. I'm afraid I have initially agreed to give first refusal to Debz. If she doesnt contact me by this Fri its open for grabs again...

The holiday consists of my girlfriend and I sailing up to the west coast of Scotland and back and its all pretty weather dependent. I fully intend to get back on the W/E of the 5/6th but with a sailing boat its not usually that simple! It would be better if we said the following weekend to make sure I'm actually home and not stranded on a sandbank or blown out to sea!
