I know this is a long shot but as title says
I current have a K1200S [after a 1150 GSA] and want a second bike for some adventure. Willing to consider bikes abroad, for the right price Thanks George |

If you understand the German lingo - there are two interesting offers on the web:
Motorrad-Inserat: Detailansicht for only 2,100 Euros and this one with a WP shock: Motorrad-Inserat: Detailansicht for 2,600 Euros The first offer seems to be a monolever with a 40L drum and big bore cylinders, but with the samll 32mm Bing carbs. Low fuel consumption. Hans

With the £ almost=to a Euro, your better off going for my BMW R100GS, £2100. It's still for sale on this site. Go on, you know you want one...

The Kalahari beats any other standard GS. They are getting expensive and we have only seen the beginning yet.
Luckily I have one, okay shape, low mileage. |

No it’s not for sale unless someone has way too much money.
It will make more sense to buy this Basic: Motorrad-Inserat: Detailansicht It looks nice, the price might be a bit high but in a few years it will be worth even more. My Kalahari is nice, fitted with heated grips, Øhlins shock, cartridge.inserts and some minor modifications. It’s in good technical shape but has a few cosmetic scratches. |

Hello George, so what would you offer for my bike and enough spares to get you half way around the world ? These bikes don't come up for sale too often !

carinatauk made the impression on me that he wanted a bike for adventures Your suggestion is for collectors only. Jeez, I wouldn't risk riding such an expensive bike off-road

![]() Yes it’s expensive but you can drive it for 100kkm and sell it with marginal loss. But I agree that every other airhead GS can do the same job, but it might need a little more work before you start the trip. Last edited by AliBaba; 23 Jan 2009 at 11:53. |

AliBaba, I totally agree with you. That Basic in that link is in a beautiful condition! That's why I would feel too sorry to batter the bike around in rugged terrain. I've got a R80GS standard, telelever, fitted a HPN tank and upgraded the suspension. After all the kms in dirt & dust, dropping the bike now & then, it wouldn't be a collector's first choice anymore. But at least I don't need to worry about scratches and bumps anymore
![]() Happy riding! Hans

Travelbike
To my mind, the Kalahari version of GS, or same-same from other source, is "the travelbike". AliBaba is probably right in that a Basic or Kalahari can only increase in price, but owning one in showroom condition, thats sort of missing the point. Of course they have lots of quirks, weak brakes, bendy forks, and all the BMW electrics, but they are still the best all round machine for bad roads, desert roads, mountain roads, city roads and even no road at all. Reliable, robust, repairable and comfortable.
Buy one tomorrow.....and next week you'll be sorting out your visas, Safe journeys, Peter, in Oslo |
