R80 G/S, F650, Honda wanted London
I'm looking for a bike ride to Cape Town. As a newbie i haven't firmly fixed my sites on one model but after reading Chris Scott and with a budget of £2,500 I have norrowed my choice to:
BMW R80 GS or G/S BMW F650 funduro (GS to pricey) Tenere Honda XR600 or Africa Twin? would consider other tried and tested bikes. If anyone has anything suitable that they are prepared to depart with please drop me a line on hurcomb@f2s.com or on 07920 50 8858. Paul

Suzi DR650 ? Or don't you get them there?
Any 'old' bike will need some work to get it relaible for the trip. Factor that into the buget.

my honda advertised on down the list will need no work done on it and can be ready to go with a 23l tank.....if i could afford to do your trip i`d take it to see my cousins in port elizabeth without hesitation....have a wee peep at the advert and see if it suits you...if not no problem..

Thanks, though i'm unable to get to france in the near future and then theres the palarva of importing the bike, re-registering etc.shame look suitable.

After much (toooooo much) deliberation and reading 1000 different opinions on the subject, i've bought a XT600E . It was a good price which allows me to make all the mods i want to make.
