actually, a hatz IB30 is a straight swap for that engine, so he is halfway there.

she's beauty. he he he he i just picked up on what martyn was saying... I noticed the "straight racing pipe" - proberly wouldn't too far off thinking to say that 'ol Edna hasn't a catylic?
Looks like a lot of good fun restoring it!

Should not really be a problem as this is still in production..
see here HATZ Diesel: 1B20/27/30/40/50 (V)
Cost it against rebuilding the Enfield engine. With the IB30 engine, you could at sometime slip the new 5 speed gearbox straight in. To install the more powerfull IB40 engine you will have to cut a bit off the bottom of the front downtube, and there wont be enough room to upgrade to the 5 speed box. look at the sommer website for pictures.

Plenty in the dealers; R Enfield sales are up in the UK this past year, by about 10% IIRC.

No real idea how old it is - they all look much the same (you can tell I know little about the bullets!). How about 20-30 years?
