I need to sell my beloved XR650L. I had planned to go back for it, but alas, I do not think it will happen. It is in storage in Buenos Aires. Mechanically it is great shape. Looks rough, of course, but it's a travel bike. I had used soft bags with it with great success. I have the bags with me in USA- can include in purchase price and send to you. I had done many mods to make it more reliable/comfortable, etc. I can email details.
It needs new tires, both ends, but that is easy to solve (it is stored in basement of a Honda shop) Other detail is a friend used the gas tank I had on it (4.5 gallon Clarke). So you will need to get a tank to Buenos Aires (about US$175 for a new one- you can take it in your airline luggage if it is NEW). I left some spares with it as well as my boots and helmet. All included. This is a great bike! Wish I could go back and ride it some more, but marriage and financial problems mean I gotta sell it. Bike is registered in Colorado, USA. Make me an offer.

It is a 1995. I bought it from my dad's friend who washed it more than he rode it- about 4,300 miles I think. I then modified it for travel (I have the complete story with exactly what I did at home and will email it to you, but I am at work now) and shipped to Buenos Aires. I rode it up the coast of brazil, eventually to Ecuador. In ecuador, I completely rebuilt the top end- new cylinder, valve seats, etc- all OEM Honda. I rebuilt it because it had sucked in a lot of dust in bolivia- my fault not the bike's. It probably would have been fine for many more miles but I wanted it to be right. I then rode it down the west coast to Ushuaia then back to BA where it sits today. I had taken off the stock speedo in favor of a bicycle speedo to save weight (I took off a lot to save weight). The bike speedo did not work 100% of the time, so I am not really sure of how many miles. But the engine is still very fresh and pulls strong.
I know the tires are shot. The chain and sprockets are probably pretty worn too, but I think I left spare front and rear with it. Since I deal chains and sprockets, I would just buy a new set and throw them in with the purchase. I know I pulled off the passenger pegs (again to save weight). I MIGHT still have them. If so, I could send them to you. Will have to dig to find out. I will email details and photos asap. Feel free to call me at 303-325-7612-evenings, as well. thanks for interest

Bike still for sale?
Hey mate,
You manage to sell that bike yet? I'll be in Argentina in March 09, and looking for a bike. You got any pics of it? Harley |
