Hi,
As our Central America trip is winding up it is time to part from our beloved 'el mule' aka 2004 BMW R1150 GS Adventure (US model):
The bike is California registered and was purchased and kitted out by us this January. Originally we intended to go to South America as well, but we ran out of time (too much to see in Mexico and Central America).
The sale is due to some really silly importation restrictions for our native Australia that prevent us from bringing the bike back with us

. Our (government induced) misfortune can be your lucky chance however, so read on.
The bike is fully kitted out for any kind of trip you may have in mind. The miles are in the low 30k's. and the bike is accident free and has never been down at speed. It is well ran in, was religiously BMW maintained and has all the little kinks ironed out and comes with heaps of quality goodies:
The bike itself comes with all the 1150 GS Adventure extras such as:
- extra large 30 liter tank
- BMW's integral ABS (which can be disabled with a push of a button for off road riding), in combination with servo assisted brakes - one of THE strong points of this bike in my opinion.
- adjustable White Power shocks with extra 20mm travel
- alu bash plate
- crash bars
- extra 12 Volt socket
- brand new Continental TKC80 knobbly tires
- and so on...For more details: The BMW R GS motorcycles - The BMW R1150GS Adventure
The rear frame of the bike (the rear baggage hold that bares the weight of the top case to be precise) has been strengthened by a professional welder, since the original BMW baggage hold is only rated for a measly 5 kg.
Other than the above the bike has been fitted with the following:
- two Hepco and Becker 35 liter alu side panniers, lockable
- One Hepco and Becker 30 liter alu top pannier, lockable
- Hepco and Becker luggage racks
- New touring windscreen, custom made for our bike by an California Aircraft plastics company - Makes a long days riding so much easier and helps keeping the weather of you.
- Touratech hand protector extensions
- Touratech side stand foot
- tank protector pads
- Alu fuel hose valve (the plastic OEM's tend to break)
- Custom rear brake disc (achieving lower disc temperatures)
We'll also provide you with:
- BMW tool kit that goes under the seat (costs a whopping $99 at BMW)
- BMW power socket to cigarette lighter adapter cable
- Cryptonite chain with noose
- chain lock (3 keys)
- brake disc lock (3 keys)
- two baggage nets
- two tie down straps
- two tie downs
- foot pump with gauge
- Tire repair kit for tubeless tires(including CO2 cartridges)
- bike cover
- BMW riders manual and service manual
- all service receipts from us and the previous owner covering the bike for all but the first 5000 miles
For good measure we'll also throw in a copy of the latest 'Adventure Motorcycle Handbook' to get you started with your trip planning.
Cosmetics:
The tank has a slight dent (about 4 cm, the previous owner leaned the bike against a wall, instead of putting it on the stand) and a few small surface scratches resulting from using a magnetic tank bag. Also there is some paint missing on the left cylinder head (a result of an ill executed start in the sand of Baja) - a minor issue that could be painted for a few dollars (according to BMW).
Availability:
The bike is available from now up until early to mid June and can be inspected as we travel down the U.S. West coast (from Vancouver to Los Angeles, via Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and everywhere in between) in the next three weeks.
For those currently not in the area and unable to inspect the bike personally, I can offer to bring it to the closest BMW service center where it can be professionally inspected for you (at your expense however).
Price:
U.S. $9500 all included,
Payment method:
cash, paypal or bank transfer to our Australian bank account - Whichever you prefer.
Photos:
I'll add some better photos later, but for the time being these should give you an idea:

With all cases, fully loaded; custom rear brake disc visible in this shot

Without side case; with the included locks; the small dent in the tank is visible on the lower right of the tank.
