There is another side to this....
Because of the many warnings about not dealing with over seas buyers, Twice I have been ignored by different people when I attempted to start negotiations to buy an older Triumph from teh UK. They are just not about here in France.

best way is to accept a bank to bank transfer with the money staying within the same bank company.. ie from a Uk Barclays account to another Uk barclays account. or any other same to same. That way all the transaction is within one computer system. You can do it with a cheque, they will effect the transfer immediately.

We get this crap on a daily basis. Like everybody says it is good sport to string them along. They normally have a sob story about and orphanage somewhere in Africa that needs goods urgently. More often than not they go by a name starting with "Reverand ??????" and want you to organise the freight.
We strung one along last year, we were paid by stolen credit card, the transaction was approved by the bank. Of course we held the goods and surprise, surprise the approval was later revoked. I had calls direct from the "Rev" with all sorts of excuses as to why we should still send the goods.

We got to hold the payment of around $11000.00 AUD for about 12 weeks 'til we had to hand it back.
So if you need a cheap overdraft this can work for you too!

There is no reason they shouldn't be able to pay using Western Union or paypal as opposed to cheque so request it and if they refuse then it's a scam. I don't understand the point of cheques, when I was 15 my work paid me with one and it bounced so I've never accepted them since (for anything) and never really needed too.
