Smells bad!
Who cares who buys your bike as long as the MONEY is in your hands and is not fake BEFORE you let the bike go.
Would you buy a bike before looking at it, riding it, negotiating???

Is this leading up to sending you a cheque to cover the bike and a large amount for shipping. Then you are expected to write out a cheque for the shipping before you find out the original cheque bounces.

There was a similar enquiry in the Daily Telegraph last week about e-mail offers in poor English to buy a vehicle.
The Reply:
''It's a standard scam that catches out many people. They transfer money to your account, but it will eventually be declared void. By that time, your car will be long gone.''

Sure looks like a scam - "if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't true".
BTW, cheques take much longer to clear than many people realise - check with your bank if you decide to go ahead!

Sounds like a scam to me too! Have you spoken to this guy personally on the phone? Tell him to call you and you will have a better idea. If he won't call you, you know its a scam.

Oops, maybe you better not disclose your phone number to a scammer. Better to call HIM. If its a Nigerian number its definately a scam!

Without a Doubt!
This is, without a doubt, a scam. And it's not a new one. I can't remember how it pans out but reading your post made me think "ahh, yes, this sounds very familiar". I've seen this in online selling sites in Aus like tradingpost.com.au, bikesales.com.au, bikepoint, etc. You get 5 phone calls from people in and around Sydney for your bike (usual enquires, when can I look at it etc) and one bogus email from a guy in Brasil sayiny he wants pics and yes he'll definitely buy! Basically he's angling for as much info on you as possible, ultimately your bank account details...

Scam !!
This is a scam.
I have got the same mail when I had a bike for sale.
-You get a check.
-You ship your bike
-A few weeks/months later, the bank calls that the check is no good and you have to pay the money back.
-Then your bike is stolen and you have paid the thief to ship it.
Don't do it !
When I sell I bike, I want cash in my hand. Then I go to the postoffice to deposit it on my bankaccount so the money is checked and only then I give the papers to the buyer to get the bike on his name.

not with your bargepole!
This from Flats to rent London, jobs in London, flatshare, free classified ads UK classified site ...
Fraud Alert
Do not accept cheques for your goods, from distant buyers, that are of a higher value than the item you are selling. The fraudsters post you a counterfeit cheques and you wire them your good money. Their cheque may well clear, but you will lose the funds once the bank realise the cheque is fraudulent. Example: you sell car for £5,000. They post you fake £7,000 cheque and you send them £2,000. Don't fall for it!

If ever you are in doubt about a transaction abroad or in your home country, try seeing if they will use an ESCROW service. If they wont = SCAM

Scam for sure, I got done for 5K! Stupid me you say? Absolutely I say. Only once you get done you find out that it is a common scam, looking back you can see it. These people are very good at what they do and how they go about doing it. Cheque gets sent after many e-mails, seems far fetched at first but becomes more feasible as it goes on. Cheque is banked, you wait for the normal 5 days for it to clear, I waited 6, then after 10 days the bank ring you up with the awful truth. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
