bikes on sale in kenya

Hi,
I'm selling a Kawasaki KLR 650 (year 1994)and a Suzuki 750 DR BIG (year 1987) in Nairobi or Dar es Salam at the end of this month (last 3 or 4 days of January). Both bikes were bought in South Africa 6 weeks ago and have gone all the way to Kenia (well, in fact I am in Malawi at the present time, going north).
I sell both bikes for US$ 4,000. Both are in good condition, we've driven 7000 k so far and no problems at all.
On the other hand, Grant I have the paperwork for the bikes done in SA which say that i am the owner of the bikes. How do you suggest we arrange the paperwork if anybody interested?
Cheers,
Juan Pablo

Juan,

It will depend on the SA requirements. The only way you will be able to transfer the title is through SA. Registering in Kenya and then selling is not on.

Some countries docs have all that is needed to transfer a vehicle as part of the registration document. If so, fill it all in and when the buyer gets to SA just go to the Motor Vehicle office and pay the fees.

You should have researched all this in advance, so that you know for sure what fees will be payable, what documents are needed etc. AND either have a web address or an official phone number and person to talk to so that the buyer can have proof that what you say is so. No one wants to run the risk of significant hassle / costs on arrival in SA. If you need more douments signed etc, find out what you need and have them on hand ready to go.

Good luck!

It is not possible to register any vehicle in kenya that is more than 8 yrs old, unless someone buys for spares

You can't register these in Kenya. Too old and even if they weren't then you would have to pay around 40-50% of list value for import tax. Try and sell them in Dar. Not got such strict rules.

RSA bikes

Hi if you want to sell the bikes to someone else who might take them back to South Africa, you should have the (yellow) NCO form filled and signed by the title holder in the seller section the buyer section I would not fill in. And the logbook RC1 you must give the buyer. Than the person can put the bike in his name in South Africa or sells it further

If you dont have NCO form I could scan one and email you one !

regards

Thomas
