AUS$2,000 is not a lot of money (GB£900?), won't buy you a lot, might need to increase your budget?

hmmm, any bike worthy of taking around aust will not be worth much less then $4-5000 (smaller cc capacity). You will probably find that anything below that will only cause you grief on your travels.

Good luck with your search and I hope you have a great time here!

This might be a bit late, hopefully you have a bike by now. I was in the same spot, ended up with a 87 KLR650 for 2500. Has been great so far. After I bought mine I saw a newer KLR for about 3000 in a bike shop in ringwood. With a bit of luck you should find something in that range. Maybee you already have.
