Bike wanted in Buenos Aires from October

Hi,
Together with my wife we're landing in Buenos Aires on 9th October and are looking for a travel bike. As our plan is to head north up to Bogota it should has foreign plates.
We're not planning to be daemons of the speed, just want to travel independently through the Andes so all used and modifications for extra luggage are welcomed!
We're open to many models and locations also not so so far away from Buenos.
See you on the road!
Rafal

I have written to them but they seem to not want to get involved in this kind of shenanigans
they say this would not really legal
they do not buy or sell and do not allow dealing foreigners bikes there
advised me better to ship bikes abroad

Yeah, a friend of mine contacted them a couple of weeks ago and they seam to have changed their mind about travelers and helping them as they have in the past.

If the end of November is ok for you, maybe I can help you.

No, here is a misunderstanding about all of this. We never change our way of thinking. We began many years ago helping travellers, we still do and will continue on that path. We also strongly believe that help should be offered, perhaps asked but never demanded...

Buy and/or sell a foreign bike in Argentina under a temporary importation is illegal, and we don’t know now how to explain it so people can understand. We in no way can be involved in such transactions. Unlike those who are just passing through, we live here and we will continue doing it, we like to live relaxed and where is possible we prefer not to act against to our laws and rules.

Many times we explain how a foreigner could make these deals happen, in person and by e-mail and also we have repeatedly posted here (use the search tool, your best friend). But too often we were been placed in a position where we ended up feeling complicit in a situation where we don’t ask to be, we want not to be and would be only for the benefit of maybe someone who want to make an unfair profit selling something illegal to someone who in maybe good faith believes there is no implied illegalities.

Now, let me tell you my personal opinion just as motorcycle traveller, that we should travel trying to accomplish with the rules and customs of the places we visit, if possible observing the local laws and without abusing the hospitality of our hosts, and much less letting involving them in situations in what may damage their daily life, that is the worst example and image that we can leave as a travellers community.

Mick, with his good spirit, we know that tries to help but also he has been repeatedly witnessed how things can turns against us. Because all of this, we must constantly change, not our mind, but yes our policies.

......... and hear of one that can be obtained legally, for instance from another traveller.

Apologies for any misunderstanding!

I just posted an ad for a 2008 KLR650 with 14k miles for sale soon. I'm currently in Sucre, Bolivia and could make it down to BA by Oct 8th. Bike has been ridden down from Texas and is EXCELLENT for 2up. I'm 6ft1, 200lbs, and my girlfriend is 5ft5, 120lbs (she says), and we had ZERO problems with the bike the entire way down. Plenty of luggage space too. Could easily get this thing set up so that you don't have to do anything once you arrive. Even have riding gear available. If you're headed to the states, I would even be interested in buying it back in Texas or California. Check out the posting for more info.

2011 Suzuki DR650 Adventure Motorcycle

I have a 2011 Suzuki DR650 equipped for adventure motorcycling available for sale from now until the end of October. See the link below.

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...sale-rio-66389

It is my understanding that the best place to conduct the transaction is in Paraguay. We could meet in Foz de Iguacu, Brazil near Puerto Iguazu, Argentina then conduct the transaction across the river in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay.

If I am unable to sell the bike by the end of October, I will simply bring it home with me. I was just thinking that this bike was built for adventure motorcyling and could be an excellent bike for someone in South America or beyond.

Thanks for your consideration. Let me know if you have additional questions. I am available by Skype as well.

Troy
