Bikes are cheap in NZ. A 1999 DR 650 with 5000 kms was at a dealer in Auckland for NZ $8000 (US $4000) and a KLR 650 47,000 kms 1996 with rack for $4000 NZ. Renting is expensive. I am setting up an information page for touring NZ and some suggested toruing routes so contact me for more details if you wish.
