I'm planning to hit over to Canada soon to start a bike trip in the North & Central America region. I've been following a lot of posts on the internet saying that Honda may have released the new Transalp XL700 in Canada for the first time last year, but I can't find anything more about it on the web. Does anyone know if they are available in the western Canada region??
I'm looking to get a new 2010 model for myself, or a very recent second-hand model, tour around for a while on it and ship it home to Ireland with me then, does anyone have any info for me on this at all, I can't find a thing on the internet. Dealer contacts, anything would be appreciated!!!!!!! Cheers!

Transalp ?
There have been rumors about the Transalp in Canada for a couple of years. At the moment though, the only 'adventure' type Honda bikes available are the 900 Varadero or CBF 1000.
No new Tenere's either. The Stelvio is available but pricey. Many folks here opt for the 650 Strom as it balances highway and some forest road capability and is available at an attractive price(about $8600Can or 5300 pounds). Lots also opt to go the KLR 650 ($5800 Can or 3400 pounds) route based on all round low cost/reasonable capability/access to parts and add ons. Out west, because of extent of pavement and long distances, as well as others factors, you'll see that HDs and other cruisers seem to dominate. Stephen Alberta |

The CBF600 is also available as is the Versys; the only true DSs available here, much to my annoyance, are the BMW F650/800GS, KLR650 and Suzuki DR650. Given the distances involved and amount of time one will spend on paved highway type roads, I am personally veering away from a single. The Versys, which is available in the USA for about $5500, is looking good.....

Cheers for the info above, pity about the Transalp, was all set to tear up the place with one. I've gotta say though, a lot of these bike recommendations aren't really swinging it for me, as I'm saying I want a bike I would take home with me, and except for maybe the V-Strom I'm not feeling the rest of these. Therefore another question.....
-Would a Honda Shadow be able to handle the roads of Alaska and Mexico?? It may be a stupid question, but I really don't know what the roads and conditions are like in these spots, and touring South America I've come across people on bikes of every type and style that seem to get people through. I may miss out on some serious fun on the dirt roads with a Shadow, but a V-Strom isn't going to tear it up either, there is a lot of highways along the way, and the Shadow is something I'd ship home with me. So, can a Honda Shadow handle it???

A shadow will handle the roads ok, you see all sorts of bikes up on the Dempster highway (650km of gravel up to Inuvik) in Canada, you will just find yourself having to go slower over the bumps and potholes/topes in mexico.
Just pack light and enjoy the scenery. Cheers Grif

Alright, that's good to hear about the Shadow. Doesn't help me make a decision at all but it gives me choices. Back to the drawing-board people...
Anyone know of a good V-Strom 650 for sale let me know...

Ok, after much soul-searching and discussion board browsing I've settled on the V-Strom 650, it seems to be a great all-round bike for what I want (and I've heard great things about it's headlights...), so sorry Honda, sort your shit out or this is where all your sales will go.....
