I'm having trouble figuring out shipping options for sending my bike home so I'm looking at options to sell.
The bike is currently in Peru and I fly out of Lima May 1st.
It's registered in WA state, USA and I have a clear, current title and registration with me.
The current temporary import permit is good for a couple more months (off hand I don't know the exact dates but contact me if you need them)
2008 Kawasaki KLR 650
685 kit upgrade
corbin seat (this is actually a really uncomfortable seat so not a selling point, the stock was more comfortable but broke early)
top gun progressive rear spring 7.6kg
progressive front springs,
HT skid plate
aluminum side boxes (pretty beat but still functional)
large 48lt rear pelican case
12 volt plugs
metal oil filter that only requires cleaning instead of replacing with oil changes
uni air filter
tons of accessories (spare front tube, spare rear tube, spare brake pads, spare clutch handle, spare accelorator cable, shims for the valves ($120 value), head gasket, header pipe gasket, lot's more)
lot's more accessories and upgrades but can't think of all off hand... I spent about a year preparing and spent about $2,500 getting the bike ready this trip (not including the engine rebuild, another $3,000).
I've changed the oil every 3,000 km (under 2,000 miles) religiously.
Mileage is a bit tricky since the speedometer cable's brocken twice and when I first got the bike I had the engine completely rebuilt with higher quality parts at the 22,000 mile mark. It currently reads 48,000+ but as I said the speedometer cable has broken twice so i'd estimate about 30,000 miles on the new engine.
Currently the steering is very loose, I've changed the steering bearings and the wheel bearings but the problem is still there. I recently discovered that a spoke is broken and other spokes are loose so I hope to fix all of this in the next week in Lima.
The front right fairing is cracked. Could mostly be fixed with plastic weld and spray paint.
There's other small issues but overall she runs great and I'm sorry to sell her. If you contact me directly I can send you pics and more details. Also please send me questions. I've been riding her so long I forget all the idiosyncrasies.
I'm asking $3,250 USD as is. It's worth a lot more than that but if it's going to cost me over $1,000 to ship it back to the US, the price would end up about the same and I'd rather know that she's still riding around the Americas.
I just arrived in Lima and it's starting to look like it'll cost almost $2k to ship so the price comes down proportionally. I'm now thinking $2,750 USD is fair and it's negotiable.
I'm also selling all my other stuff too. MX boots, Hein Gerrike jacket, Hein Gerrike pants, Shoei Helmet, etc... If anyone needs a tent, sleeping bag, or anything else for adv riding, let me know. I've probably got it. Email me for pics...
It should be on Friday. I met with a mechanic today and he confirmed that he thinks it's the spokes causing the shakes. He couldn't fix it today but and I have an appointment on Friday to get it fixed.
Everything should be all good by then, I'll confirm once it's done.
hi im planning to spend most of my time up in bolivia, do you know if i would have any problems getting the bike over the boarder (not being the registered owner) and getting insurance in bolivia, would it be possible to meet somewhere closer i fly into la paz? in the next week?
Can you email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org . I'd like to bring a friend into the conversation to help answer some of your questions. He's a fellow kiwi, ADV rider, and someone I rode with in a few places in C&S America.
He's currently with his brother in Bolivia near Cochabamba so he can probably help as I haven't crossed the Bolivian border but I assume it's the same as all the other South and Central American borders I've crossed.
As for meeting closer to Bolivia, Yup, I could probably do that.
