Sold
First person came to look at the bike yesterday. They gave us $250 deposit last night and are coming with a $6,500 cashiers check tonight and to pick up the bike.
We have another Dakar, Erin's, with less than 13,000 miles, a little lower (1" kouba-links), and full luggage (Jesse side bags and Givi topcase). Price will be $8,300 (gently ridden), same upgrades. ULTIMATE JOURNEY.COM -- Motorycycles
I will be posting it on the market later this week - Let me know if you are interested.
Chris

We could help you with that -- you could use our address. German friends purchased a bike here last year and took it down to SA...

title/plates
so how does it work exactly...I bought a truck in Mexico last year that wa soriginaly titled in the US...documents werent correct and I couldnt cross the border into Guatemala as all docs had to match name on passport...if I have a Canadian passport how do I have a US address?...how long does it take to get the plates?
Also, are both bikes available, or just the lowered one? I am 6'0"
Thanks...Lee

Hi Lee,
Lowered bike is available. $100 for new linkage will bring it back to stock height. Shock is lowered a tiny bit, but with the heavier spring it would be fairly close to stock -- of course, cranking up the pre-load would probably still be taller than stock.
We would sell to you, put it in your name, use our mailing address -- so, name on paperwork would match name on passport. I bought a bike in NZ and travelled through South/Central America with a USA passport, no problem - names on paperwork matched. Having said that, many people rent bikes and take them across boarders -- just need some kind or "release" (which I know nothing about).
As for plates, you pick up the plate the day you pay sales tax and registration fees at the local MV office.
Photo below has GS seat but the bike now has the higher, original Dakar seat.
Hope that helps!

Hi, I am flying to the US middle of October to buy a bike to travel through Central and South America with then going to New Zealand afterward. You said you bought a bike in New Zealand wouldn't it have been easier to buy it in the US where your from? and drive south. How did you ship the bike and what was the cost.
Cheers Baz

Baz - Yes, starting on a US bike makes more sense. However we were half way through our trip and I sent my R100GSPD back to the states and picked up a 650 in NZ to have 2 identical bikes for travelling. Shipping costs have gone up -- best to look on the HUBB for current contacts and get new quotes.
Hope that helps!
