2000 KTM 640 Adventure - Windhoek, Namibia
With great reluctance, I am selling my South African registered 2000 model KTM 640 Adventure.
The bike is currently stored in bits at the KTM dealer in Windhoek, Namibia and needs some attention. Unfortunately due to other commitments, I am not able to stay in Namibia to complete the work, so would rather it goes to a good home. Therefore if you are not interested in doing some restoration work on the bike, you can stop reading now. For those still interested....... I am the second owner of the bike and have owned it since 2004, from which time it has been used for several trans Africa and desert trips. The bike has been crashed regularly off-road and thrown from the top of various Saharan dunes - therefore the bodywork is a little scratched. The current mileage is about 70,000kms, although the engine was rebuilt at 55,000kms. Please note that as the tripmaster is not working, the mileage is estimated based on my GPS readings. The current engine still works, however due to its high mileage and general condition, I had planned on swapping this engine for a 2002 LC4 engine, which can also be included as part of the sale. The bike is fitted with KTM rear rally tanks (6+9 litres) and supporting bracket (fitted by David Lambeth in the UK), giving total fuel capacity of 43 litres. The tanks are not connected to the carb, therefore it would also be possible to use one or both for water storage. There are no panniers or pannier rack. Included in the sale are two brand new and unused Michelin Deserts. In order to get the bike in decent condition, I would recommend swapping the engine and completely rewiring the electrics. The rear shock is also a bit tired and could do with being re-gassed or replaced. The frame and bodywork (whilst scratched) is ok. The tripmaster is no longer working, but there is a Touratech Garmin 60 series GPS holder and electrical connection to the battery to allow you to plug in a GPS instead. I am open to offers for the bike. Given my reluctance to sell the bike, I would also consider other arrangements, where if someone was interested in completing the engine swap etc and storing the bike long term in Southern Africa, then we could share access to the bike. Please PM me if interested. I am happy to send photos of the fully assembled bike if needed. |
