2 KLR650s for sale in Peru in February, '08
One 2006 and one 1999 Kawasaki KLR 650 will be for sale in Peru. I'm flying out of Lima on the 3rd. week of Feb. 2008. Both bikes run great with 28,000 miles. For photos email: kipshields@hotmail.com It's easy to get the bikes out of Peru via Ecuador or the N. shore of Titicaca to Bolivia. I've done it, es basico! I have the address for migracion and aduana in La Paz/El Alto AND Ecuador is an even easier scheme on exiting the country.
PS: Both bikes can be modified to carry surfboards, I have the photos to prove it! Cheers, Kip |

Hi Kip,
Wish I was buying your bikes but am replying to your thread for some information for some friends in need. Two friends left Britsh Columbia on Oct. 1/07 and arrived in Panama City a few days ago. They arrived in Quito, Ecuador today. They were informed that they need a "Carnet de Passage" to receive their motorcycles that will be arriving tonight by air freight. They were told that they could receive the bikes only when they produce a carnet. They do not have a carnet for either bike. You seem to have experience with this. Do they in fact need a carnet? Can you offer any suggestions? Thanks, Stromba |

Hi Stromba,
Do a search and read up on "carnet de passage" on HU. The carnet used to be required in Equador but was dropped in September 2004. Though not required in Equador, Customs still gives travelers hassles about requiring carnets. There is an HU member that lives in Quito, Equador named Ricardo Rocca? who can assist your friends with customs clearing the bikes. His contact information is in the HU carnet posting. You can also have your friends contact the HU Equador group as well. I traveled South America in 04-05 but sailed from Panama to Columbia and rode from Columbia into Equador on the Pan Americana. Though I didn't need a carnet I did need help as customs wrote me up a special letter that was signed by their government attorney. Torria SoCal |
