2 Bikes wanted in Chile - March/April 2008

Hello there. First post on here, but I've been lurking in the shadows for a long time! Some excellent info on the site and particularly the forum which has helped immensely in the planning of our trip, so thankyou to everyone involved in that!

So, my friend and I will be arriving in Santiago at the beginning of March, and have to leave at the beginning of May. The general plan is to head across to Buenos Aires to meet another friend and then head in the general direction of Cuzco, before heading back down the coast to Santiago. We're still looking at the distances to ensure that we are not trying to pack too much in.

I have had some excellent advice and guidance from many people in the Santiago community, but thought it might also be worth popping a message on here just in case our plans coincide with anyone elses, in terms of buying and selling bikes or whatever really

Essentially we are looking to purchase some bikes, ideally with a buy back type arrangement, as obviously we would like to minimize the time spent trying to sell the bikes.

We're fairly flexible regarding the type of bike, but given our time constraints, I'm thinking it might make more sense to go for something newer (assuming this actually equates to more reliable!).

So that's about it for now. Any info or advice anyone can give us would be really appreciated!

Thanks,

Chris

I will be finishing my Central and South America trip around that time. I am interested in selling my bike. It is a 2001 BMW F650. It has been well maintained and runs great (currently 25k miles). Cosmetically, it is good, but to be perfect it will need all the turn signals replaced, a new exhaust, new exhaust heat protectors, and maybe a couple other minor things.

I think trying to get a buy back arrangement is being very optomistic.

For gatogato

Hi there,

Can't send private messages yet, but if you could contact me on lordymurphy at hotmail dot com then perhaps we could discuss some more.

Where is the bike registered at?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris, sorry for not replying earlier. I forgot about this thread. The bike is registered in Iowa, USA. I am not sure about the process of buying the bike. I will send you an email.

Bike March/April

Hi,

I'm very interested as well - I'm a US citizen and would be driving it back to the US so it shouldn't be an issue.

Please PM me or reply to this thread - would love to connect and take the bike of your hands.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Mike, I am going to make a for sale thread here with pictures. The bike has been well taken care of and is in pretty darn good cosmetic condition for having made this kind of trip. There are a few things that will need to be replaced cosmetically if you want the bike to look perfect. The exhaust, exhaust heat sheilds, all the turn signals, the left turn signal mounting piece, and the windshield.

I have Touratech style aluminum cases that were made using air plane rivets by a BMW mechanic in Colombia.
