1996 dr650se for sale. France

Hi.
Will be selling my dr in France in about 2-3 weeks.
Don't have pics at the moment but will have in a few weeks when I get to where ill be stopping for 3 weeks.
Its the purple, white and yellow colour code one.
By the time I get to france it will have done about about 16,000 miles. Thats what it says on the clocks anyway.
I set off from England last May to tour a bit of Europe.
I'm in Italy at the moment and heading to South of France to uncles house where then I'll be selling it.
It's UK registered. Have the V5. However the bike ran out of MOT and Tax in January.

If you wanting more info let me know.

Price will be about £1000

Regards
Mike

your travels

I'm an American trying to plan a trip to travel a bit of Europe - including Italy - in the spring.
Can you offer any advice as where the easiest/best country to buy a bike would be? As I said, I'm American, but I also have Irish citizenship/passport.

thanks

Matty

Matty,

Not to sure really.
I'm guessing for insurance you need an address in the country your planning to buy a bike in. For the registration and insurance.

The a bit of difference with insurance between say France and England.
If you buy insurance in France your covered for all of Europe but in England your only covered on a normal policy for 30days outside the UK. If you want longer in Europe you got to pay more money. Plus insurance in France is cheaper. Plus no Tax needed in France or MOT for a bike.

regards
mike

Hi Mike

This model of the suzuki went through a major upgrade and improvement (presumably) for the release of the 1996 model.

Is your model post or pre update?

As you state it is registered 1996 it is obviously quite possible it is prior to the upgrade and re-release???

How much longer you planning to be in France?
Unlikely I can get there before you leave.
If we can agree a price is it possible we can work a deal even if you have already returned?

Phil.

Phil

Not sure about the question of pre release or upgrade.
It has electric start and thats all i know to be different from models pre 1996.

Im going to be in the area of where the bike is till this thursday coming. If its not sold, it will go stay at a friends house.

I will be working 3 months in West Coast of France till near end of June. Then will be returning for a few weeks to where the bike will be.

Ive advertised it on some french websites. And while i'm gone, if there's anyone who wants the bike they will be able to deal with my friends about the sale.

I took it out the other day for a ride and noticed a slapping sound coming from the front chain area.

I'm thinking it might need a new chain and sprocket set.

Will be taking it to the garage this week to find out exactly what this sound is.

Will update this post when I find out.

Mike

More news Phil.

Staying where the bike is for another week now.

Found out what the noise is.

There is a tight spot on the chain. And there is a clicking sound when bike is in motion.

I soaked the chain in diesel for night and did my best to free it up, and it
is much better now, but still there is a little tight spot on the chain.

Up to you matey if you still want the bike.

Forgot to mention the bike has service history up to when I bought it. 12,000 miles on clock. I think 5 lots of servicing stamped in the book.

I had a french guy come look at it and he was going to buy it but he thought the clicking sound was a problem with the gearbox. I tried to show him the chain and the tight spot on it but he wasnt having any of it. SO... i took the chain and front sprocket of it and ran through the gears. Gearbox sounds perfect. No clicks or knocks.

Put chain back on and ran through the gears and there was the click.
It can even be seen where the chain is tight and it clicks when on its arrival to the front sprocket.

A new chain would sort this out. And I know people say you should change sprockets as well, but the sprockets on the bike are absolutely fine and it would be a waist of money to buy it all new.

Regards
Mike
