Landcruiser 2.4 Parado Help Please

2.4 Prado J registration.

I have the opportunity of buying a very tidy J reg LC. Only thing that is putting me off is that when I went to see it, it had no oil cap.

Bloke says that the motor belonged to his dad and that his dad lost it.

Have heard that engines can 'spit' oil.....can anyone give a novice advice, as I really like the older cruisers.....but it's for a trip to Morocco.

Thanks in advance.

Main proplem with that model of engine is cracked heads, it seems with surfs which share the same engine (2L-TE) is not if, but when the heads go. A new quality modified head ready to fit costs around £675 so something to think about.

Later models in the same shape as you're looking at had the 3.0L 1KZ-TE which although not fault free from head problems, it is much more rare.

LC's

Agree with the above, plus the 3.0 litre engine will give that bit more grunt, especially off-road

Have a look at some of the Land Cruiser websites or Hilx surf site:

Depends how much you want to spend I guess :)

The prices of Landcruisers are sky high at the moment, I often think of what I would replace mine with when the time comes, the 80 series is very highly regarded but the prices of the 80's of late may make the newer 100 series look better value IMO.

Maybe keep looking for a good value 70 series but with the 3.0L engine or maybe a 90 series (Colorado) but they also seem to be at high prices ATM.

There is also the 3rd Gen Surf which is very similar running gear to a Colorado.
