I might be able to get OME for you slightly cheaper than others, but it might take a week ish.
Let me know if you're interested.
Cheers,
Matt

Rear leaf set

Matt,

Depending on what you are going to do with the car, if you intend to do an overland trip, I would not go for OME springs. The shape of the OME are different from the Toyota shape. The OME have a flat part in the middle where the U-bolts are fitted. The Toyota's don't have that. They are not interchangeble. This means if you break a leaf, you can't replace it with any other new or second hand leaf but you are stuck to replacing it with another OME, and these are not easy to get outside the western world, certainly not in Africa. Best to stick with standard design. Many non Toyota springs according original design are available, like Ironman.

I had a couple of broken leafs on my trip through Africa and could use any Toyota spring available, ones I pulled one from a container on a mission!

If you stay in Europe then OME is no problem.

Cheers,
Noel

A quick update on the leaf spring situation… I had several offers for OME ranging from £250 each to €360 plus… (matt was the cheapest !) … mainly due to delivery times and shipping costs, I looked locally and found a company whom only specialize in leaf springs and air bag installations.

Its 2 older chaps working there and they are incredibly enthusiastic, current projects include a racing 30’s Buggati which is having a complete new set of leafs made, to a new Volvo truck which will be used for ground work and needed a lift…

They charged €70 each for the two broken leafs, (BTW 70mm on 7mm) and €120 for the complete rebuild which included heating the main leaf then putting in their massive press, giving me a 2” lift plus reshaping all the leafs, new center bolt, new brackets etc etc

OK its expensive but I believe the workmanship was very good and the leafs should be OK for another 20 years and 300.000kms.. bring on Africa...

The guys speak Dutch and French which was a little challenge for me, but hey !!!

Thanks for all the comments / help

Cheers

Yes, I think you've done the right thing. and I agree it doesn't sound expensive.

Thanks for trying me though, I appreciate it.
