familly friendly alpine 4x4 tours

Does anyone know of a company offering alpine driving tours. I'm not looking for brain out off roading. Just the chance to explore off the tarmac with my family in the alps.

I know of a company that will charge you the cost of the entire trip (fuel, food, camping etc) on top of those things.

We did it ourselves with a bit of map reading its fun and pretty straight forward.

Have a read of our trip report:

French/Italian Alps Trip Report 2009 | Sirocco Overland | Сирокко Оверленд

to see if independent travel is for you. There is a good loop from the med coast (just in Italy) up along the border and across the Col De Tende. You could drive for 2-3 days here easily. The Col De Parpilon is another great offroad pass. You can also drive to Sommelier where there is a glacier and is the highest accessible point in Europe (by vehicle) at 3000m.

Once you start googleing these and looking around on maps things become clear. So if you have the time to do some research I fully recommend doing this over a tour.

If you find its not for you, I may recommend that company but please please please take a look yourself 1st!

Popular place to be

It looks like the Col du Sommelier could be busy this year.
= I can't find a 4x4 on here.

The col summit is supposed to be closed to vehicular traffic except at certain times of year but I have no idea how well/much the Italian authorities impose this rule.

Same thread two locations

Similar answers though

Moggy, you may find people are going at a similar time to you that you can tie up with. When you going?

I have leave from end of July to end of August.

We may be in the same area at the same time. Move over if you see a ropey green Landy coming, I can't guarantee the brakes!

Moggy, you're cross posting which wastes time for everybody, please don't do this.
You're other thread has more responses.

Maybe a moderator can tidy this up?

One Life Adventures

I thoroughly recommend....

OneLife Adventure - 4x4 Holidays, 4x4 Off Road Overseas and UK Adventure Expeditions, Lancashire UK
Great to go on one of his UK trips, you get a feel for Paul and Anne's ethos and then plan a trip.

We went to Wales with them and will be booking again in 2014, just never the time to head off abroad, what with helping everyone else get geared up for their trips.....always love hearing about them afterwards

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
