What happened to Mollydog.

Thought I would post here as it says, no useful comment required !!

So what happened to Mollydog? Is he banned?

I read the 5 page KLR thread - Shows how bored I am, been stuck in Darwin for nearly three weeks waiting for Toll to ship our bikes to Dili. Even read ALL the small print on the malaria tablet box.

Any way, If he is banned it's a bit harsh. I can understand why though and personally won't miss his many comments judging people as Noobs and himself as an expert. I like to think of the HUB as a place to get help - information and learn from the experience of others and in turn offer help and information. Not a place to preach, judge or argue.
We all have to make choices based on funds, personal taste and sacrifice - what you ride or how you do it is 100% up to you - It simply can't be wrong if that's what you want.
I'm just happy riding my XT660R, been told it's heavy and crap - I agree but I love it and wouldn't own a KLR or GSA for all the tea in China.

In the style of Dave Allen - Ride safe and may your wheels stick with you.

Dunno? i liked Molly`s posts, honest & to the point but with a hint of pisstake, it would seem the forum is changing to a more ADV style of forum.

Maybe he's on the road somewhere or doing something that keeps him away from his computer - I hope it's something like that anyway as I don't think I've read anything of his that would warrant the forum's grim reaper(s) excising him from these hallowed pages.

Maybe he's just got bored - people do come and go over a period of years
and if you do post a lot, as he did / does, sooner or later you'll say something that someone else takes umbrage at. A few (usually pointless) slanging matches later and perhaps enough is enough.

I miss CAMINANDO, actually met him a couple of years ago, a really nice well educated guy.

IMHO it's the hint part that's important. For the native English speakers you can take or leave it, if your first language is not English and it goes over your head then C'est la Gare . The ADV rider style of electronic hand bags at dawn does nothing for me.

Banned users aren't listed in the Travellers List, keeps spammers from getting any SEO juice.

Mollydfog was banned, I have now changed his status back. For now, as long as he behaves.

I get VERY tired of dealing with complaints and issues caused by a very few people. Caminando was just too much trouble, and Mollydog is skirting close to the edge of a permanent ban as well - my patience is wearing very thin. I have met both of them more than once, they're great people in person, and have corresponded with both many MANY times, way too much - and that's where it all goes bad - I am only willing to invest so much time into smoothing the feathers of people they've pissed off, and "educating" and "guiding" the problem people to be polite and useful members of the HUBB. After a while it's just not worth the effort, so they're banned. In all the years the HUBB has been going, there's only maybe a half dozen at most that I've been unable to "educate", so not bad overall.

What I won't accept is the "handbags at dawn" crap, and I think most people here would agree that that is one of the things they like about the HUBB. The moderators and I work hard to keep this a fun and easy-going, friendly place to be, and will continue to do so.

I expect people to behave as though they were talking to each other across the table, and not hiding behind a nom de plume. A very important difference to "in person" is that facial expressions and body language aren't visible in a post, so that's what emoticons are for - if you're doing a "pisstake" be SURE to include an emoticon or three to let people know. It's not always obvious, even to a native English speaker that you're not being serious. Unfortunately, for the non-native speaker, it can be even more insulting and rude as the "fun" part does indeed go "over their head" - it gets taken seriously and then we have a real problem. Also British humour is often missed completely by Americans, and vice versa. As someone who has lived in Canada, USA, Australia, Singapore and UK, humour OFTEN doesn't translate even among speakers of the same language! It can take a long time to get the subtleties of local humour!

I hope all that makes sense!

"handbags at dawn" crap
For the people(like me) whose first language isn't english, here is an explanation

Handbags at dawn:
A catty fight. Derives from the more traditional "pistols at dawn", but with the selection of weapon implying that the participants are of the weaker sex. Works especially well if they're actually male.
"Dave and Bill just couldn't agree on which boy band was their favorite. Before we knew it, things got out of hand and it was time for handbags at dawn!"

Some people I'm happy to ride with. Some of those I'm happy to travel with over some time. Think it is the same with interweb things .. some just rub the wrong way, if they do that too often then? You'll quickly realize this on a bus trip where you cannot get away. On the bike or web you can get away.

For what it's worth, I am a native (American) English speaker who has spent enough time in pubs with British motorcycle riders to understand a lot of slang, but I didn't get it either.

I guess that illustrates my point!
I'm so used to it I didn't think it needed translating.

Hmmmm, the best professors at college were also high maintenance, and could be quite rude, but they are the ones I'm most grateful to.

Mollydog IS quite an encyclopedia, and seems to be always willing to share for free

If the brainboxes leave then who will pass the knowledge on?

Never read anything by caminando..

On the humor subject I'd rather get it wrong here and learn something than in a customs post in Chile..

just a passing thought:confused1 :
cheers

Encyclopaedia's are faucal and concise. From what I've read of MD, most is quite the opposite!

No offence intended just an observation!
