Well this is a novel way to get to Timbuktoo- the Skycar

Thought I'd post this up, sorry if you've seen it before. Take one Rage buggy, add one prop and one parafoil, mix in some lunatic Brits and head for the Sahara. It's the Skycar.

They plan to get all the way to Timbuktoo in this thing, flying it across the English Channel and the Straits of Gibraltar. I had a look through the list of people involved on their site and noticed a few bikers:

Neil Laughton, Andrew Wiggins, Tim Maw, Ben Gott, James Scrimgeour, Jon Hall, Charlie Bell, Toby Kilner, Simon Temple, Mathew Colley Banks, Luke Banks

Anyone look familiar?

Yup, I've been lusting after an aerochute Aerochute - Two Seat Powered Parachute - Aerochute International for ages but honestly I can't see how they can build a para wing that has enough lift, and a car body that is sufficently light, to allow this thing to fly.

Either there have been HUGE advances in technology in these areas or the thing is a crock.

Garry from Oz.

Funny but the picture is a fake. You will never be able to see the cords going to the chute, on the shadow.

Ah, come on, that top photo is just to give us an idea of what they are trying to achieve. I don't think they're passing it off as a real photo. Still cool though.

For sure it is, I don't think they're trying to pass it off as the real thing, they've not done the expedition yet. But I somehow doubt Sir Ranulph Fiennes, their patron, would attach himself to something that didn't have some hope of working. The guy building the thing apparently also built the two parafoils that were used to go over the top of Everest, so I guess he knows a thing or two.

All the best to them, I just hope someone in TV has the balls to televise this expedition so we can all enjoy it.

Looks like a lot fun.:scooter:
