UK Passport office in Brussels to Close

Hi folks,
I need a bit of help please. I know lots of you love to travel around Europe and beyond on your bikes and in order to do so you carry your passport with you.

Her Brittannic Majesty's government has decided to close the passport office in Brussels , which just so happens to be where I and thousands of other UK citizens live. This is going to be a right royal pain in the a$$ when it comes to anything passport related because it means we either have to go to Paris or get it done back in the UK.

There are thousands of Brits living in Belgium and working for European institutions, NATO and international companies so in a vain attempt to try and halt this closure there is a petition started and a general mobilzation of people who are starting to inundate the Embassy with protests.

It doesn't matter if you don't live in Belgium - anyone can join this petition. It is a ridiculous thing to imagine that the British Embassy in what is supposed to be the Capital of Europe won't be able to issue passports but the one in Paris will so please sign up and swell the protest

.
Petition to: maintain a full range of passport services at the Brussels (Belgium) Embassy.

If you feel especially strongly about this please write directly to :

Dr Rachel Aron
British Ambassador
British embassy
Rue d'Arlon 85
1040 Brussels

Tél.: +32 (0)2 2876211
Fax: +32 (0)2 2876360

Thanks for your help
Cheers
Gecko

Exactly - far more Brits in Brussels than Paris so there doesn't seem any sense at all. If you could get a new passport over the counter in the Uk it would be Ok but as you can't , it would mean going to the Uk and not being able to travel back to Belgium until they got round to issueing a new one. If it's for security reasons then anyone who could interecpt the thousands and thousands of passports that will need to be sent between Brussels and Paris will be able to have rich pickings indeed. It's just insane....
sign the petition if you haven't already. It's approaching 1000 in the 1st 24 hours so it may get noticed.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
